URBAN DECAY MATTE EYESHADOW!!
Eye love Urban Decay and I love my sexy Badgirl Tammy that always scores for Megsmakeup!
Urban Decay just knows eyes so well! I know I can't live without my Primer Potion, Eyeshadow Transforming Potion, 24/7 Glide on Pencils, all to be removed with their fantastic Clean and Sober!, It only makes sense that they'd get their eyeshadown in matte down pat!
I use the shade ABC every single day! It's perfect for daytime and a great, blend color when I want to add some Peversion to it!
The package is super durable and is modelled after a NYC subway token. It takes a banging and doesn't crumble. As I said, I've been using my ABC day AND night and I'm only now making a dent in it! No wonder it is both a celebrity and makeup artist fave!
Here's what Urban Decay has to say about their matte eyeshadows " By popular demand, we created new Matte Eyeshadows that are sexy, sophisticated, and never dull. The collection comes in a wide variety of shades—from blendable earth tones to vibrant bursts of color. Pigment-rich with an ultra-soft texture, Matte Eyeshadows are low in binders, so payoff is amazing and never chalky! The classic Urban Decay subway token is dressed up with a gunmetal finish so you can tell them apart from your other Urban Decay Eyeshadows."
Tips: Combined with Eyeshadow Primer Potion, color lasts even longer and payoff is even richer. Use Eyeshadow Transforming Potion to use Matte Eyeshadows as a liner, or all over opaque color.
Urban Decay just has all from start to finish to give you the most perfect, easy to master, sexy rexy bedroom eyes! They really have thought of every tool to make your life easier and your eyes grab center stage.
Eye Love them! Ladies, let me know your favorite Urban Decay eyeshadow shades and products and if you love them as much as eye do!

I chose the UD shadow in "secret Service" although a more fitting albeit less sexy name for it would be U.P.S., cuz its exactly the same brown as their uniforms! It is very matte and very pigmented. The texture is super smooth and seems to be very finely milled. It's not hard to blend it into a soft smokey look or use it with an angled brush to create a dark, rich liner. This stuff has major staying power too! I don't even thing you'd need the primer to keep it in place!
I have the Urban Decay shade “Illegal” - it goes on SO smooth - I like to use this color on the crease area between the eye lid and the brow bone for depth. This color is great and it seems to have staying power. The round case it comes in is very appealing and I like that it’s sturdier than some cases I have had where the plastic ‘clasp’ piece seems to disengage and forever lose its ability to ‘click’ shut again soon after you first use it - whereupon a rubber band needs to be wound around the case in order to keep the eye shadow inside the container from getting mucked up! I LOVE that you can actually read the stickers on the bottom of the cute little eye shadow case telling you the product name and color which lies within! 10 points just for that!
Jeanasina!
I received UD in Illegal, too- won't describe since it's already on here, I have a terrible head cold, and I've been w/o my computer for a week, so I have too much Meg's reading to catch up on! Plus, I think I've already asked about it on some other post?? Anyways, not used to wearing mattes anymore either, and just really wasn't sure what to put this with. Got a suggestion at Sephora about putting Purple Haze with it-a shimmery UD shadow. I have, but am not sure the 2 really do go, since Illegal is like a brown base and purple haze is well...purple. So, I wasn't wild at first about how this looked on my brown eyes alone (or with the shimmery purple), but now am starting to realize that it does look quite nice alone when I want to wear red lipstick. And of course, like others have said, it really does go on very smoothly - and stays - esp with the miracle primer potion. So, if anyone else has any suggestions on what to mix illegal with, please share =^)
It's rare to find a brand that has so many holy grail products...Urban Decay is definitely one of them. Though I don't have any matte eyeshadows from them yet, I plan to haul some in my next Sephora order. Thanks for all of the recommendations ladies!
So I'm a total Urban Decay junkie- I loooooove their eye stuff. So of course, I had to try the matte. I have it in Foxy, Narcotic, and Chronic, and while I'm usually not a matte girl, I often use it to offset their nice, shiny, /gorgeous/ eyeliners (liquid or pencil- I love them both!). I remember Christmas Eve, I decided to do something really funky and line my eyes in their liquid liner in Gash (the dark coppery red), and then I layered their good ol' Midnight Cowboy shadow over that- then I did the crease in the bright green Chronic. Not too costumey, since I have fairly small eyelids and you can barely see my crease, but when I blinked it made a nice little surprise.I loved the idea of their Matte Vs. Shine collection. It was kind of a new way for me to play with makeup- textures!
OK... I love the matte! A LITTLE shimmer goes a LONG way for me and my eyes. I like wearing subtle matte colours with maybe one colour with shimmer (Like the Balm’s Caught in the Act Courtney). I guess if I had someplace else to go besides hanging around with a lot of farmers, I might look for a little more glam in my everyday life. Anyway, since receiving UD in Illegal, I’ve been reaching for this shade regularly... often as a crease colour. I’ll be looking for more UD mattes, because they are EASY to apply & layer. And the packaging - nearly indestructible. All in all, you just gotta love UD!
Eye hear you Badgirl, Urban Decay has the Eye thing down pat. My makeup lingerie always includes UD's Eye Primer and the 24/7 glide on pencils. The ABC Matte Shadow looks very versitile and I love the subway token case.
I like a matte eyeshadow too. Although, it's nice to have a little shimmer, cause you gotta have choices. I heard somewhere that you should only use a matte eyeshadow in your crease anyway? Like ChiChi...I really think that as I get older the less shimmer the better so I'm glad to have this in my stash. I got Illegal and it's an unusual color to describe...definitely a brownish neutral but it looks like nothing I have right now so I'm happy with it. Olliebee, I'm shocked too! You gotta get UDPP (and when you do & think you're running out, cut it open...I got about .3 oz left over)!
Olliebee - how have you NOT tried the Primer Potion yet? My jaw is on the floor! You need to get on that ASAP. I don't know how anyone wears eyeshadow without it!!!!

I got Perversion, a jet black. It makes a great liner. But I'm with Kate on this one, I don't think I'm going to be jumping back on the matte train. I wore them in the early 90's when Ultima had that trend covered (anyone remember those? They were pretty.) But I think my old eyes need some light deflecting shimmer on them these days! But if you want to give mattes a try, this is a good one. Really nice consistency and cute packaging.
I have the ABC gum shadow and like Meg I use it everyday. The color lasts through out the day and gives my eye lids a nice natural look. I prefer to use matte colors during the day when I’m going for more of a natural look and the shimmers for night time and special occasions when I want an extra pop. The packaging is great and stands out in my makeup bag so it’s easy to find.
I am with Olliebee and Kate! While I love shimmmer, I really do. I like to switch it up with a matte since I get bored easily, and I find that matte does last longer on me. I got this in CHRONIC, it is a bright sage green, and it is made for Greenie! It is so pretty with my hazel eyes, I really love it! If you use this matte shadow with thier primer shadow potion, it will last a week if you don't shower...kidding, there is noway I would know that ;). But I did forget to wash it off on night (after a few wines) and it stayed put all night! I love everything I have ever tried from Urban Decay!! They rock!
OH! And I LOVE their new flip top containers (as opposed to the screw off ones they use to have). So cute and practicle!! I also love individual eyeshadow containers! So great for tossing in my purse for emergency glamorization!
i'm not a huge fan of matte makeup, i'm with desert doll, it's a bit too 90s for me... but i do love their eyeshadows, 24/7 liners, and primer potion!
I have the UD shadows in Sellout & Half Baked. I have blonde hair & blue eyes & I think they go really well with thatcombo. I only use them on my lids w/ a highlighter on the brow bone. It would be really pretty on everyone with a tan. They're pretty neutral. I'm apparently one of the losers that haven't tried UDPP yet. I did try the Balmshelter concealer on my eyelids (broken cappilaries) & I thought it did a great job keeping the eyeshadow in place. But UDPP is definately on my list!!
I've heard so much about their primer potion, its a cult fav around here. If its that great, I think I'll have to purchase.
I received Narcotic (teal blue). The color was a bit too much for me, but the formula and application are really great so I would definitely try the other colors. As for Matte vs. Shimmer - why not both? most days I use a matte as a base or for definition and then highlight with my shimmers. I also think mattes of really awesome colors make great everyday work-appropriate looks.
I, on the other hand, love a matte shadow! As much as I love the look of shimmers, light, bright, etc, my skin hassuch a redish tone to it that when I have on light colors you can barely tell I'm wearing anything. I feel like I have to use so much just to get a little to show so I've always liked the idea of a matte shadow. I have Illegalwhich is the perfect mauve/pinkish/brownish color. It has great staying power and is perfect for me trying to puta little makeup on for a nightime outing (which are few and far between). I really like this and would love to trymore colors. It also makes my eyelids look really smooth which is nice. Love it!
I was given the smoke colored Urban Decay shadow and it seemed like it was made for me. If you have blue eyes, particularly a dark shade of blue, you will flip out over the way it make your eyes stand out. The product itself is also very light so it feels like you hardly have any eye makeup on, which is a huge plus. The packaging is light and has a very cute lid so it can easily fit in a clutch or pocket. The only thing to make it better is if it came with a small brush.
LOL @ xanthurus' dream. :) That's an awesome dream! While I applaud the continued quality of UD's products - I really just don't see the reason for using matte shadows. Why? Shimmer is good...especially cause you don't want to add shadow if you're dark circle prone. You want to lighten and brighten! Call me crazy, but the matte shades just dont speak to me. The regular shadows like Smog, Shattered, Mary Jane, or Lounge on the other hand - are divine!

I'm a huge fan of Urban Decay. Love their primer potion and I really love their matte shadows. I received Illegal and Yeyo. I find myself reaching for these shadows almost everyday. Like Meg said they seem to last forever. I've used the Yeyo for a couple of months now and it doesn't even look like I've put a dent in it. The Yeyo is a white matte color that works great as a highlighter under the brows. Illegal is a pretty mauve with a hint of brown that really gives my eyes a little pop. I'll definitely be buying more of these in the future.
Two COFFINS way up of course!! I LOVE THESE!! I have Perversion: the Perfect Black, and Chronic: The perfect bright Karloff Green.. just like the ever so handsome Frankenstein. So lovely. They Stay put.. with the primer as the first step! All these colors are lovely.. look see which one looks like you might love it.. buy it and then discover that you WILL Love it!!!!! Thats all.. all hail UD...coffins to the sky! xo and boo MTG
In my megsmakeup.com shirt and bag of goodies I got the UD matte eyeshadow in Cult. I must say I do love the package, and it has seems durable (being knocked off the bathroom vanity by myself and my roommate's cats without shattering. At first I didn't know what to think about Cult, a purple-y color, it was quite a deviation from my mainly beige, brown, dark green eyeshadow wardrobe. But it has proved to be a nice staple for everyday. Sheer when put on lightly, not sparkley or showy, just enough color. I haven't tried using it with transformer as an eyeliner, but now that you mentioned it I will. Over all I thought this was a good product and would buy in other colors for everyday wear.On a side note, Meg I had a random dream that I ran into you while out to lunch with my parents (weird since we all live in very different cities), but in my dream you graciously joined us for lunch and were quite an enjoyable guest! We exchanged make-up tips galore and even convinced my mom to try new make-up! Too bad this didn't happen in real life, how fun!
I remember Doll! We loved Ultima's matte shadows - and I still love a good matte shadow. For me, as I get older matte shadows look better on my eyes than sparkley one, especially around the crease of my eye. Matte seems to hide fine lines, while other types seem to highlight them. Anyway, I received the urban Decay matte eye shadow in Cult a rich purple that does wonders for my blue eyes. (Fellow blue eyed girls - purple colors really seam to make my eyes stand put, try it!). The shadow is soft and smooth and blends well. I too use a primer and this shadow lasts and lasts. Oh, and I love the packaging! Didn't realize it looked like a subway token, but I like that it's not the normal black circle, so I recognize it in my basket of shadows. Plus the flip off, attached lid means I won't loose it. UD has another winner!
I love these, I have oily eyelids (ick) so shimmers don't seeem to wear long, these do. Recently I had to abondon some of my favorite shadows due to the fact that my new contacts (yay!) made my eyes sensitive, I still wear my UD!!!!
I have this shadow in illegal and I love it! It look very nice with my brown eyes. I use the primer under and it last all day. I need to get more colors in the matte shadows.
I am a big fan of UD eyeshadow. It is simply the best. I have not tried the matte. But thanks to Ollie's comment about oily lids I think that I will. Because as everyone knows I am constantly moaning about how oily I am!
they have great collectors i'm going to add a few more to my collection
I have always been a fan of UD's Powders, - I love my Roach and Midnight Cowboy! - but, I a fan of the new Creme Shadows. I love Rehab.
I actually don't own any of UD's matte shadows.. all of mine are shimmer, duotone, glitter, or metallic. The colors are terrific though, so I wouldn't be adverse to trying the mattes. :) My main gripe about matte e/s is that they usually are a pain to get on, and require more effort to blend. If UD's go on nice and smooth then that shouldn't be an issue though.
I need a push to try matte e/s, I dont love it!! I am very much a shimmer/pearl girl. I love Urban Decay but havent tried any of the matte, maybe I will give it a shot!!
yes i just went into my local boots and they have a buy 2 get one free on urban decay..!!! yaya!!!! i was testing the pallettes, what nice colors@ i really love the half baked color and baked, so gold and shimmery and strong- must buy it soon

dandy-- I really love Half Baked, and it looks fab with Twice Baked in the crease. I have them in the Sustainable Shadow Box, it's an awesome palette! And if you like gold and shimmery, I'd suggest Maui Wowie. :)
Omg urban decay is freakken love!\I love their eye shadow primer : )
I don't wear many matte eye shadows, I'm a sheen and sparkle kind of gal. But I do loves me some UD shadows and know there will come a time I will have to retire my beloved sparkles. I should probably start adding more matte shades to my repertoire!
nice boxlove eye shadows
I like those eye shadows!
I'm a shadow girl and these are some of my favorite! but i love all shimmer, metallic, etc!!!
