I am so disgusted
I am so absolutely disgusted by this I don't even know where to start.
This is completely like bombing women's clinics or blowing yourself up on a crowded bus in the name of "God". I'm sure the Christian thing would be to find forgiveness in your heart for these morons. It's just amazing to me that someone could not only be filled with so much hate but then try to blame God for it.
I grew up Catholic and have friends of all sorts of religions and I've never asked what someone was doing that weekend and got the answer "picketing a funeral".
I'm going to wait for the head of the "Westboro Baptist Church" Fred Phelps to kick the bucket and write "picket funeral" in my datebook for that weekend. Unbelievable. Here's his wisdom "Fred Phelps leads the church, which demostrates their strong conviction against gays, lesbians and soldiers by picketing. The Topeka, Kansas based group has made headlines in the past after picketing at the funeral's of soldiers carrying signs reading "Thank God for Dead Soldiers" and "God Hates Fags."
"God hates the, tacky bucket of slime seasoned with vomit known as Brokeback Mountain and he hates all persons having anything whatsoever to do with it," the church writes on a flyer.
I'm probablly going to get into trouble for writing this, but, you know that's never really stopped me before. I don't get some things about this country. I think one of the rights we have should be reeled in a little bit..How is it illegal to yell "fire" in a crowded theater but legal to taunt and protest at a funeral? Can someone please rewrite or add some addendums to that whole "right to assemble" bit. I don't really know what the difference between what Fred Phelps does and how hate crimes are any different.
The "Westboro Baptist Church" has already been sued for 11 million dollars for picketing a soliders funeral whose body was sent back from Iraq. Why the picket? Well you see "God hates the leniency our military has shown gays".
God can be very insensitive sometimes, can't he?
Yikes, this makes me so angry and so sad. Fanaticism isn't just found overseas. Welcome to evilness found right in Topeka.

I entirely agree with you... how can they be allowed to picket soldiers funerals? I hope the jury awards that family the 11 million dollars.

Why would God be on the side of someone who judges people? It was just a role, get over it! I think I've heard of this "church", they make me sick!
That is ridiculous, some people who are supposedly such "true" believers in God, actually know nothing at all about him. They take what they read in the bible and twists it so that it fits their wacky world and then blames it on God. How simple minded can you get??

If you google the term Westboro Baptist Church or Fred Phelps you will find a huge article in the Topeka paper that is quite eye opening about this man and his merry band of hatermongers. Or actually just go to the website, of the http://search.cjonline.com/ and put Fred Phelps in, the CJ has done a great job of reporting on them. If you are interested in learning more about them. I am totally in favor of free speech and all the other goodies our Constitution gives us, but, some times it just goes too far in my own opinion.
Fred Phelps and people like him make me sick. Whatever happened being taught to 'live and let live', 'treat other people the way you want to be treated', and 'don't judge a man unless you've walked a mile in his shoes'?

Intolerance is the worst sin. I guess these people will find that out when they die and wake up in hell. Until then, I think they should get no press and no attention, and they can slither away quietly.
hi, i'm not trying to be rude here. just a comment-being tolerant isn't the same as love. if you love a friend, you wouldn't tolerate her stealing and cheating. you would try to help her out, but without judgment or condemnation.

Everything I have ever heard of God is Love! not hate, these folks need to get their noses back between the leather and actually read the word and digest what it says rather than picketing a funeral... That's ridiculous!

I am not religious but I will let people believe what they want, but I have no patience for the Westboro Baptist Church. There was a horrible murder in Canada last year, a young man was decapitated on a Greyhound bus, and the WBC wanted to come protest his funeral. Why you ask? Because this young man was murdered as punishment for Canada allowing gay marriage. Thankfully our securities minister (or whatever his position is called) put the word out and the church was not allowed to enter Canada.And people wonder why the public looks down on certain religions. The few nutjobs in a particular church ruin any good other members may do because the crazies are always more vocal.
I saw this church in "chaser's war on everything". I pity those people for living in their narrow little holes, developing downwards in their narrow little minds. They need to see the big picture.It's crucial in our current society to be accepting and willing to experience.

Are these people serious? I am Catholic and would never imagine spouting the filth that these people preach. They have some nerve to say God feels that way…I didn’t realize they knew him personally. I can’t believe they would picket funerals like this. These are good people.
I personally know gay people and I have no ugly feelings whatsoever about it. Why should it matter so much.
This church makes anyone with religion look bad. Besides, I believe that the bible says we are not supposed to judge others…that’s God’s job.
These people make me sad. I don’t understand how we can be so evolved and so smart but we can’t figure out how to accept people for who they are, without prejudice.

I completely agree! This is an excellent post. I find that people always want to throw GOD into the picture when they are committing sin. It is absolutely disgusting. Only GOD can judge and they really need to get to know him...because with GOD all things are possible.

OMG... I can't believe this. They have no respect whatsoever. It's just crazy. I don't believe in God But it makes me go mental to think that these people are going strictly against their God's will by doing that kind of stuff when they're actually saying that they're acting in his name. They are b******s aren't they.
