CALGON'S HAWAIIAN GINGER! LOVE ALL THE CALGON SCENTS! DRUGSTORE DEALS!
Every Thursday, Rachael Robbins Beautyzilla brings you the best of her double D's
Happy New Year!! I hope 2008 brings us lots of beauty and glamour and reasons to get beautified and glamorous!! And speaking of getting beautified and glamorous (cuz that’s what we do here at MM), I want to talk about scents. I don’t know about you all, but if I don’t finish my getting ready session with an application of perfume, I don’t feel “done”! And my perfume taste changes with the seasons. As you’ve probably heard me say a MILLION times: I’m super picky about my scents! All kind of scents: perfumes, creams, body lotions, laundry detergent, hand soap, EVERYTHING you name it! I am a HUGE fan of Jo Malone, I have about 8 of her scents, but I use a certain one at different times of the year. Orange Blossom is a staple, but whether that gets blended with Gardenia or Pomegranate Noir depends on well... the weather! I also love Javago 24k. I discovered this when I worked with Jamie Lynn Sigler from the Sopranos. She smelled divine and I asked her what she was wearing. She told me she had been wearing this particular scent since high school! It’s yummy, and very classic, but meant for certain occasions. Occassions that I would wear a mink coat to (if I had a mink coat) but you get where I’m going with that. I also LOVE Kai oil. At $40 a pop for a vile not much bigger then a perfume sample, this stuff better be good, and it really is! It’s a pure oil that smells just like Hawaii. It smells different on everyone because it blends with each person’s individual oils in their skin. So, like Jo Malone, you get a very personalized scent.
So, the theme of my scent-sational perfume story is: It aint cheap to make me smell good. Or so I thought........
Cut to me working on my last film “The Gentleman”. We were shooting at an enormous mansion but we were located around it’s luscious pool. So, the holding area, where hair and make-up was, was in the pool house. Which, in all fairness, was a house. The only thing is that it had ONE BATHROOM!!! For all of us to use, actors, crew, even the caterers for crying out loud! The problem wasn’t waiting to get into the bathroom. The problem was the guys going in there and blowing it up!! Well, on one day of the shoot, it was raining out, so there was no place else to be but in the pool house. And this big crew guy went in there and well.....it was bad. It smelled bad, it sounded bad. Bad bad bad! So someone came in and drowned the smell out with Lysol. Now, I’m not sure which scent was worse. And then one of the actresses, this stunning centerfold came and saved the day. She said to me “Do you like cotton candy” and I said “Yes?” at which point she whipped out a bottle of Calgon’s Cotton Candy Body Spray and liberated our poor abused noses! Being the scent snob that I am I expected the Calgon to be equal with the Lysol, and right infront of the bathroom stench! But I was happily surprised at how yummy it smelled!
The next day she brought in the Hawaiian Ginger which was also delish! And I bought the Marshmallow and LOVE it! Not only are these little treasures great for making the room and your bod smell good, but they also work great on freshening up clothing, bedding, and my car interior! Because they are only $6.99 I have no guilt in spraying up a storm! I have no doubt that there is a flavor out there for everyone and each one will smell yummier then the next!

I have a couple of these in the travel size that I keep in my travel case for the same reason. They smell great and are wonderful for masking unpleasant odors. I love tropical scents so I'll have to try the Hawaiian Ginger next time.
ABSOLUTELY THE VERY BEST SCENT I HAVE EVER OWNED. BETTER THAN ANY PERFUME... I GET SO MANY COMPLIMENTS ON THIS STUFF...LOVE IT......CAN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT IT......JUST GO BUY IT...IT'S CHEAP TOO!!!!
I love Calgon's Hawaiin Ginger! I used it years ago and loved it but it disappeared and I couldn't find it anywhere (not in my room or in any stores). A few months ago when I was in Rite-Aid I saw it and was so happy. It's the best-smelling cheap perfume out there. I can't really describe the scent, I've never found anything similar, but it's goood.
I’m about to REALLY date myself - does anybody else remember those “Calgon take me away!” commercials?? It must have been mid-70’s because I seem to remember a woman clad in bad polyester with her temples in a vise grip as ab annoying husband questioned, bosses yelled and babies screamed... then she was magically transported to a tropical oasis that surrounded her bath. Why can’t my bath products do that?? After 45 minutes of tech support (I stumped them), I’m feeling like that I could use some of that Calgon voodoo. Voodoo of some kind, anyway. Kate, I don't think there is a cure for French Bar syndrome - unless it is another glass of Chateau Neuf du Pape!
Whoops - I meant BPAL - I'm a newbie!!
All the best for 2008 DD!!...If I may, what exactly does the Hawaiian ginger smell like? I think I have liked one Calgon scent...but I shall certainly look out for this one and the cotton candy (love that scent)!!!
Years ago I had a couple of Calgon scents. I had a spray and two pots of solid fragrance. Neither were the Hawaiaan Ginger but for those who don't like the sprays check to see if Rite Aid has the solids. From what I remember these were decent clean scents. I think it was something to have to with Rain in the name of the scent, the other something to do with Peaches. I'll have to check out the Hawaiian Ginger. It sounds yummy and right now drugstore.com has it on sale for 5 bucks and change for the 8oz. bottle. However, I didn't see any of the solid fragrance. Just checked the Calgon site and they don't show the solid fragrances:( Maybe RiteAid? Thanks Racheal for reminding me of this brand!! Happy New Year!
Tried it and spent the night itching. Every Calgon product I have tried makes me itchy. Just not for my sensitive skin.

These sound like they might even give Febreze a run for your money. I mean, starting on the 1st you cant smoke at all in restaurants, bars, and clubs in France, and yet ALL of my clothes, shoes, suitcases, bags, etc. smell like SMOKE now! Its now even infultarting my closet with this one dress that I realy didn't want to have to breakdown and dry clean. Must check out...

Haven't tried this product but that scent is absolutely amazing. Maybe BHAP has it in one of their oils. I wonder if anyone makes a candle with the scent - it'd be great for spring or summer in the house. Tried to locate this product at my local CVS and no luck - all they said was "they still make Calgon?!" From an online search though, looks like Walgreens carries it.
honestly, I've tried some of the calgon scents, and personally... the vanilla sucks! its not yummy smelling, but more like alchohol-y smelling, if that is a word. I picked up the fresh smelling one, not quite sure of what the name is, but it was very alchoholly and kinda best for a room spray sorta thing. For those I've tried, their not the best, and smelll pretty bad. But I kinda like tropical summery scents for summer and I think I'll pick up hawaiian ginger.
I was looking for the Almond Calgon online I was Googling i and it tooks me HERE on megsmakeup lolanyways...I bought the cotton candy one and OMG that was everything but not a cotton candy sceny =s I didnt like it at all but I heard that the Hawai ginger and the marshmallow obes were DELICIOUS!

Oh my goodness I love the 'Calgon Tahitian Orchid' body spray. It is a nice smell. But most of all it reminds me of a time that was very, very special to me. (you know how smells can do that, 'take you back in time' thing that they do!?!)
I have a couple of body mists at home but never get round to using them, I prefer stronger smells like perfume. Although it's great for a subtle smell.
Nice! the review was great!
I was introduced to Calgon by my roommate. She used Morning Glory, and it smells really good.
I love body mists I really like to use them especially in the summer but I haven't tried Calgon yet!
