KORRES MINT TEA SHOWER GEL! GREEN CHI TUESDAYS!
Welcome readers of megsmakeup.com! It’s Chichi here with another Green Chi Tuesday. I admit it - I take way too long to shower. I love the quiet and relaxing alone time a good hot shower provides. But I know I’m wasting precious water as it literally goes down the drain with every long shower I take. Living in Southern California, the drought conditions have been on my mind. We have had a record dry spell that has severely affected our water supply. And the story is the same over many parts of the world. I keep hearing horror stories that fresh water will be the next commodity we will be fighting our wars over (and not in a hilarious way like that Waterworld movie.) So, before we get to such dire straights, I’ve been doing some research at Water - Use It Wisely where they have a great list of 100 practical water saving tips. Plus the site is full of helpful information and links for the water conservationist in all of us! Here are some of their simple tips we could all implement into our beauty routines with ease:
Turn off the water while you brush your teeth. Doh, this one is so obvious. I am guilty of standing next to my sink, absent-mindedly brushing away, while water runs out of the spigot and right down the drain. If you remember to turn off that faucet, you can save 4 gallons a minute. (That's 200 gallons a week for a family of four!)
Plug the bathtub before turning the water on, then adjust the temperature as the tub fills up. Since winter and long, warm soaks are in my future, I need to remember this simple tip. My bathtub faucet can take some time before the water turns hot, but why let all that water rush down the drain? You could also fill up your watering can with the cold water, plug the drain when it gets warm, and than water your house plants while the tub fills up!
Time your shower to keep it under 5 minutes. This one is going to be hard for me, but I am going to work on it. I placed a timer next to my tub and I may have to taper down from my usual routine to make it in less than five minutes. By shortening my shower time, I can save up to 1000 gallons of water a month!
Just in time to test my willpower, I visited desertdoll this weekend and discovered Korres Mint Tea Showergel in her guest bathroom. I loved it so much I had to “borrow” it from her so I could write about it for all of you (see how much I care?) Korres Natural Products is an all natural line based in Athens, Greece and all of their products are full of ”top quality plant extracts and essential oils, which enchant the senses and effectively treat the skin. These natural ingredients are safe, effective, and provide nourishment to the skin without synthetic ingredients you don't need like mineral oil and propylene glycol.”
The Mint Tea Shower Gel is my new favorite shower item. It lathers up into a great foam that smells bright and fresh. The gel rinses clean away without stripping my skin - wheat proteins and aloe help leave my skin soft and moisturized. Plus, the invigorating scent wakes me up and gives me the energy to get out of the shower at that five-minute market!
Anyone else have a water saving tip we could use? And I know some of you beauty goddesses have already discovered Greece’s own Korres Natural products. What do I need to try next?

I LOOOOOOVE the Korres products. Of course they're in every drugstore and much cheaper in Greece. But I love the showergels that all have matching body lotions. Personally, I am not a huge mint fan but I love the Guava and the Lemon Basil scents. Plus the packaging is very manly so these even make great gifts for guys. They also make this Mango butter for the face that is supposed to nourish and protect against extreme conditions. It evaporates your sunburns and windburns (from skiing or something). YOu also all MUST try the Guava body butter. Sex in a bottle.

i LOOOVE mint shower gels, but i haven't tried this one yet. does it make your skin tingle a little bit? that really wakes me up in the morning. right now i am using c.o. bigelow mint shower gel, but it is almost out..besides i love buying korres products and supporting the old country!
I try to save water by not letting it run while brushing my teeth. Also, if it's time to water the plants I water them from the bath water. I love mint! Currently, I have two shower gels that smell of mint. One is a little manly smelling for some reason. The other is just not minty enough for me. I must try this and the lotion. The Guava butter sounds really good too. Thanks for the post!
DD...I love to move things to my guest bath too. That way my hubby things I've finished up the product (one of his pet peeves) when actually I haven't, but at least it is getting used up by someone. This gel sounds yummy. Would love to try it.
i cant say i've tried this yet but I've heard great things about this line....i have sensitive skin so would this work ok for me you think?.....are there any other scents you might recommend? not that the mint one isn't fabulous of course:)
Hey chiquita! You've been a busy little poster - welcome to megsmakeup! During the winter, I can get dry, itchy skin and when I visit Desertdoll I can feel the moisture just being sucked out of my skin. Within hours of arriving I break out in red bumps and have to invade her cabinets for body butters. Anyway, my point is that I used the Korres Bath Gel all week-end and had no problems at all with sensitive skin issues. I think you should be good with this stuff. As fas as scents go, this was my first experience with Korres bath gels. The link above has 13 different flavors - I think the Vanilla Cinnamon sounds yummy and the girls here seem to like the Lemon Basil. Let me know what you choose!
thanks for the tips Chi-Chi, I am a bad long shower taker, so I will try to cut back on shower time...., and I want to try this too!!
I've only used the Basil Lemon body wash, but that is a great scent for the summer months. It's kind of zesty and really makes me want to waste water by lingering in the shower a bit. I might have to try the Fig next. I've also used their Wild Rose 24-hour moisturizer when my skin gets super dry during the colder winter months and it really moisturizes and I didn't break out from the richness of it, which was AWESOME (my skin is cranky). The Evening Primrose eye cream is also lovely. It's more of a light-diffusing concealer than an actual eye cream, but it does hide dark circles nicely. If your face gets oily, DEFINITELY check out the Lemon Anti-shine gel. It really helps keep you matte and it doesn't cause break-outs (it contains Willow Bark which actually helps fight blemishes). Has anybody tried the Pomegranate Balancing Moisturizer? I'm intrigued...
Reading this reminds me how yummy the Basil Lemon Shower Gel is. It's a clean, fresh scent, and like ChiChi says, has great lather and doesn't strip the skin. I see that they now have body scrubs in tubes (yay!) I'll have to remember to pick some up at Whole Foods along with Weleda Wild Rose Deodorant and Suki Lemongrass scrub.
Hey absinthe, the mint in this gel is more subtle. The green tea (and a sort of citrusy? scent) stand out more. So, no tingles. But if you like bright and clean and foamy - you'll like this!
I want to try this!!! I smelled it and loved the smell..!! Oh here's my water tip.. when doing the dishes..Get the dishes wet then turn off the water why you suds them up and scrub.. turn back on to rinse.. works like a charm and conserves water!!!!
Oh, sorry. A water tip for you too. Turn off your water to shave your legs or to use scrubs. You save water and you don't wash away any product while your doing it.
I love Korres! It's really reasonably priced and this scent is really light. I love tea based smells. 2 recycling tips too: when you near the end of something and you're dying to open the next one, if you have a guest bathroom-move it in there! Your guests will feel special that they don't have a drugstore brand and they may even want to "borrow" it. That's my second tip, trade with a friend. I've got lots of things that I like, but aren't crazy about. So does Chi Chi. So we swap!
Korres is really great! I only recently discovered it. I purchased a fig body lotion. It is great. It has such a unique and pleasant scent. It's mildly spicy and woodsy. And it is sooo moisturizing without being sticky. My husband hates all lotion but really tolerates this well. I also got the plum lip butter. That is also devine. The color is so pretty and the texture is very moisturizing and not gooey! Two thumbs way up! Can't wait to try more!!
Its helpful to know korres works-its one of those brands I keep wanting to try.

Mint tea, mmm don't know if I am so keen on mint.
Nice! the review was great!
I have a sample of the fig that I've been meaning to try...Another water saving tip: turn the water off while brushing your teeth or working facial cleanser into your skin.
