OIL OF OLAY EYE ILLUMINATOR - DRUGSTORE DEALS!
Every Thursday Rachael Robbins brings you the best of her DD's!
So the Emmys were last week, and surprise surprise, I didn’t win one. Which was not that much of a surprise because except for the Lavalife Dating service commercial I did, I wasn’t on any television shows this year. The weird thing is that I had a dream I won an Emmy for some kind of guest appearance on an episode of a reality television show. Dreams are strange.
Even though I didn’t win an Emmy ( I guess my invite got lost in the mail with the white bra I ordered from Victoria’s Secret) I DID get to experience a tiny piece of the nights glamour when Jamie Wong, the magical Oil of Olay fairy, sent me Definity Eye Illuminator Treatment which was included in this years Emny gift bags. Now, I know the Emmys are for television, and TV is not as glamorous as films and the Oscars, but I was still shocked to find out that a little ol’ DD product made it into those gajillion dollar gift bags. Intrigued, I tried it and as soon as I did I realized that this product was something special! Actually, before I even tried it, I realized it was different just by looking at it! I looks like a swirl of platinum suspended in ectoplasm!
But it’s not that. What it is, is “an intensive anti-aging eye treatment that helps diminish under-eye darkness and dullness and improves all-around brightness for eyes that are luminous and highly defined”. It felt cool and refreshing when I put it on, and made my eyes have a subtly brightness to them without having the appearance of “product” being there. I always find that concealers never look natural. Definity Illuminator looks totally natural!
It won’t be on the shelves until July 2008, but mark your calendars ladies! It’s worth the wait! (That's wrong-sorry. It came out in July 2007! TGIAF)

LOVE THIS! However, I use it on my pigmentation area over my lip and it has been the only thing that has ever done anything!
I have this and I like it. It seems to last forever... and I am pretty sure you can find it for less $26 - I am pretty certain I purchased it for around $18 a month or so ago, but it may have been an introductory promotion. I can't say I've seen anything revolutionary about this product, but it is just as good as any high-end eye cream I have used. I think Oil of Olay have really stepped it up a notch over the past few years
This looks really similar to Murad's Moisture eye silk, which I've been eyeing for awhile. But this is about 30 bucks less. Hmmm. For everyday I really like MAC's fast response eye cream, which has caffeine and depuffs very well. But we're going to be reviewing a Sonya Dakar eye cream soon that's turning into a fast favorite too.
I don't think I can stress the importance of eye cream enough. I realize, I'm not very old but In the past year or so I have really been turned on to the religion of eye creams. Just this past week I was shirking on my eye cream application for a few days and it made a HUGE difference - baggies and dark circles that just showed right through Time Balm Concealer and the Alexandra de Markhoff Fresh Eye Cream plus used asa a highlighter. I mean...If I had a spare one, I would be carrying my Caudalie Eye Contour Cream around with me all day! It does wonders!

I'd love to try this! Grad student life + Fibromyalgia= horrid circles and puffiness under the eyes. My mother has less circles than I do! I'm hoping that this could take the place of the (seemingly overpriced (b/c it hasn't helped)) MD Skincare Lift and Lighten, the (milia-causing)Clinique AAE, and the wonderful Kinerase that I just can't afford on my budget.
I can't wait to try this eye illuminator! My eye "bags" often appear too much like "luggage" and I always try quality products when they come out. I'll review it after I give it a try.
Okay, so I've been using this cream for a few days now and I think this is more for camouflaging the dark circles rather than treating them. That being said, it really did improve the appearance of fine lines and the dark circles, but mostly because of light defusing pearls in the product. It's like a very sheer under-eye concealer. It really does brighten up the eye area, so thank you Olay :) I would not, however, wear this overnight, as it was fairly drying on me and my hubby (my human guinea pig). The hubby actually said something along the lines of "Oh, God, it burns!", but he's a bit melodramatic. For overnight, you definitely need something more moisturizing than this product (*cough, Fresh Lotus Eye Gel, cough*). I tried wearing it through the day and unfortunately, concealer and foundation do not adhere to this eye gel, they kind of float on top of it and refuse to blend. I didn't notice much change in puffiness, but then I put the product in the refrigerator for a few hours and the cooled product did help, so y'all might want to try that. Overall, not bad, and as the hubby pointed out, the pump looks like a vial of the T-virus from "Resident Evil". Yeah, we're hardcore nerds.
Bags under my eyes? I use them to carry the groceries home from the store. How's that for going green? They recycle each morning into bags again. I am currently using Benefit's bag cream. It has a name. Kate would know it. I would too if I wasn't too lazy to go upstairs and look. Ok, guilt got to me. It is their depuffing cream in the tube. It feels good going on. A little tingly so if you have sensitive skin this may not be your product. When this is gone I am going to try the Definity. ALthough I think that spackle from Home Depot might be more economical and just as effective.
this is why i should win the most fabulous oil of olay illuminating eye treatment give-away...this mama is potty training triplets. 'nuff said.
I'm fairly loyal to my Fresh Lotus Eye Gel, if only because it makes my eyelashes grow stronger and has reduced breakage due to my eyelash curler habit. In the winter months, I use Shiseido's Bio-Performance Super Eye Contour Cream because it's very rich and really helps reduce dark circles and any sign of wrinkles, but it's so rich, I can only use it when my skin gets very dry. That being said, I almost always try any new Olay products. My mom is a lifetime Olay user and at 62, she has no wrinkles. She's the least vain woman, but she wouldn't be caught dead without her Olay. When I hit my teens, she gave me my first bottle of Olay face lotion and I used it fairly religiously until I graduated college and I discovered the wonders of Sephora. Due to brand loyalty, I still use their products periodically and several are currently hanging out in my medicine cabinet. I've been hearing great things about this new eye cream and my soon-to-be 30-year-old eyes are starting to look like zombie makeup from "Dawn of the Dead", so I'm feeling open to trying new things...I will report back my findings...
Wow Jenlaw...I sooo feel for you. Potty training is hard enough with one, I can't imagine with 3! My daughter is showing the signs of wanting to potty train and I have to say I'm really not excited. I dread the accidents and always having to be near a potty at any given time. As for the eye cream, I do have to say it sounds nice. I've tried other Oil of Olay products recently and have been pleasantly surprised in how much I like them. I'm also a little bit like DesertDoll...I love eye creams, gels, serums. I'm not sure why this is my particular obsession. I guess I imagine this part of my face wrinkling before other parts and I'm going to do my best to stop it. I'll definitely give this cream a try when it comes out.
I have to say, that my favorite thing about getting this product was Beautyzilla's husband asking if I got "that architectual looking produbt" - lol - it IS very cool looking :) I am totally with DesertDoll when she says that she loves MAC's Fast Response Eye Cream - that is the best of the best for using under makeup. However, Oil of Olay's Eye Illuminator is my new fave for putting around my eyes when I am (gasp!) not wearing any makeup. It definately illuminates the area and creates some nice reflections that cover up any imperfections around the eyes. It is not the most moisturizing eye product I have ever used, but it certainly is a fabulous product that hides any number of "eye issues" and allows me to feel okay about not wearing concealer around town - now, THAT is a huge deal!!!
*snort* - v funny! fresh anything is fab and your glowing recommendation might ween me away from my olay/anew & castor oil (gross, huh? but it's supposed to give amazing eyelashes - supposed to is the key there). ya - prolly just did cuz i'm lazier than i am thrifty. which is kinda scary.
Got this for $20, it burns a little. Still awesome though.
gah! i love drugstore deals!
