DR. BRANDT'S MICRODERMABRASION - FABULOUS FRIDAYS!
Desertdoll brings you dream items on Fabulous Fridays...
Drunk with power. I’m absolutely drunk with power! Oh, what a feeling.
Earlier this year I wrote a post for the Glominerals lip gloss we received to test. (Read it here) And because I had your attention I decided it was a good time to list my ten favorite glosses. I wanted to share, but really-it was just an excuse for me to try on the 30+ lip glosses on my vanity and rearrange them again.
So anyway, allow myself to quote....myself:
“Smashbox Limited edition in Beauty-oh why, oh why can I not get this gloss in a full size?! It’s part of mini collection and was never made larger. It’s a gorgeous sheer coral that is pure summer. Seriously, this gloss is happiness with a wand.”
Imagine my surprise and absolute delight when I received an email from Sephora announcing new summer products including, you guessed it...Smashbox lip gloss colors including BEAUTY! I have to control myself and not buy 20 tubes for fear it will disappear from my life again.
I pass this on to Meg, she’s not surprised. Smashbox folks read the site apparently. Could it be? Did they hear my desperate cries? Did I bring this gloss into production? Lil’ ol me? This really could go to my head. I should add some sort of title to my name-Desertdoll, bringer of LE lipglosses into production since 2007. That might need a bit of work but you get the idea...
It just goes to show you, the Internet may be a powerful thing. But women writing about makeup ON the Internet? That’s scary powerful.
Speaking of powerful, who’s been lucky enough to try Dr. Brandt’s Microdermabrasion? There’s a lot of these type of products are the market right now, including some really great drugstore versions. But this was one of the first and remains my favorite. They call this a “high performance” product since it mimics an in-office treatment. Why’s it so powerful, you ask? Here’s why: Pharmaceutical grade crystals polish away dead skin cells. These diamond shaped crystals exfoliate evenly without scratching or irritating. Benefits include:
• Enhances the penetration of other treatment products.
• Visibly smoothes and refines, leaving your skin radiant
• Helps clear acne prone skin and improves scars
And best of all? They’ve recently introduced a new formulation that has more soothing ingredients that improve its effectiveness without irritation.
So ladies, if Microdermabrasion (or any of Dr. Brandt’s products) has made you feel like you could move mountains-let us know!

I've tried both. Philosophy's is gentler if that's what you need - and the dose of Vitamin C is never bad. But I really like the Brandt. The upsdie fot hat is that its only one step.

I love this stuff! Totally kicked my acne scar's butts! I used it twice a week, and now that I have amazing results, I do maintanence with it and rotate it with the billion other exfoliators I own! DON'T use this in the shower though! The steam makes it run into your mouth even if a crowbar couldn't pry it open, and you're munching on crystals for quite a while!
Oh, and Desertdoll, just between you & me -- Meg, close your eyes -- I was reading your Glominerals post and it got me thinking... if you haven't tried them the Bloom lip glosses are amazing. I have the solid and the tube-style and they're as moisturizing as a lip balm and smell and taste delish. Plus the packaging is cute to boot! And I can't live without my Goldie gloss in Whip It. It's the perfect Barbie doll pink, stays put and is really shiny. It's the pink I've been looking for since I was 12. Oh! and I am sooo loving Tarte double-ended in Anthony and Cleopatra. In fact, I think I need to buy their Sunglosses right now. Or stop. Thinking. and Talking. and Spending All My $ on makeup...
OMG! I'm off to Sephora immediately! You have no idea how heartbroken I was when I ran through my little mini tube of Smashbox gloss in Beauty and couldn't get it in a full size. Yay!May I take this moment to wield my whip and suggest the Factor heirs make available their gloss in Magnify as a single? It came in that cute little cigarette box -- the Totally Fab Lip Gloss collection, but it's not sold on its own :(Dean and Davis, hear my plea!!!
On the note of Microderm. I am a big fan. Man, do you feel like you Soft Scrubbed your face! (Soft Scrub is like, my favorite cleaning product ever). It even smells like lemon-soft scrub. I admit, some people may not find that a turn-on. But I do...so if you're like me, this is much more economical than your own dermatologist. And it doesn't irritate. Keep it to once a week though.

Oh Krista, you are a very bad influence! Now, let's talk lip gloss...I read your post about maginfy and instantly knew which color you were talking about (I got that holiday set too) Isn't it just perfect? Chi Chi and I have marveled over what a beautiful color that is many a time. I have never tried Bloom OR Goldie glosses! I'll have to give them a look. But I do love the Tarte double enders. I'm more of a Lois and Clark girl myself. Purples clash with the my skin tone but I'm always jealous when others can wear them. Lastly, the way I look at it, how much cheaper is a lipgloss than a pair of shoes or a purse? You're actually SAVING money by buying makeup.
I'm intrigued with Desertdoll's review. I'm wondering how Dr. Brandt's Microdermabrasion compares to Philosophy's kit. I've been using Philosophy's kit for about a year now never venturing to check out other brands. Has anyone tried both but liked another one better? I may need to switch!
I ordered the Dr Brandt Microderm on Ebay - (gotta love Ebay, this wonderful product only cost me 35.00 rather than the 75.00 it would cost retail.) After trying it for the first time last night, the results were specacular. I have very congested, oily, acne prone skin. Before using the Microderm I applied a pore cleansing drugstore brand clay mask (the kind you get in the little packets on the end of the aisle). It helped to really open pores before using the Microderm. After rinsing away the clay mask with warm water, I rubbed the microderm crystals on my face for about two minutes. I then rinsed with warm water and dried vigorously with a rough towel. I looked in the mirror and actually saw gunk coming out of my pores. This product is excellent for removing blackheads and whiteheads. My dirty pores thank Dr Brandt! It suggests using 2x per week for those with oily skin & it made my face feel so fresh, I can't wait to use it again.
O h sounds great and desert doll Im totally with you on the denial about how much we spend on makeup,it could be worse collecting helicopters or super cars would be much worse.

this looks really nice!
I've tried the Dr. Brandt and the Philosophy "microdermabrasion" products and think they are good scrubs but that it is just wrong to call them microdermabrasion. I've had microderm in the past and it is a completely different animal. It removes all your flaky patches and the dull surface skin. Reduces the dark marks from old blemishes. And can prevent new blemishes from clogging your skin. It also reduces the really fine lines. These scrubs maybe reduce flaky skin and some dull surface skin. And that is a good thing, just not microdermabrasion.
This is a bit pricy but I would give the money for a good exfoliator!
