LIP COCKTAILS!! SATURDAY AT SEPHORA!
Every Saturday Katerock2004 brings you her Sephora Insider Secrets!
Moms. You can't live with 'em. Can't live without 'em. My mom, well, she can be a little controlling. Imagine that. When I was little, I always wanted to help her cook. Stir the dough, lick the spoon, cut things, push the shopping cart. She never would let me! She still won't let me push the shopping cart. So eventually I stopped asking to help in the Kitchen. Of course now, If I sit there on a barstool while she's cooking she gets mad that I'm just sitting there and not helping. Sheesh! Maybe if Santa Claus could have agreed on who was going to buy me an Easy Bake oven instead of neither of them ever getting me one. Ever.
Still, I like to cook. Sometimes, I cook at work. Really! My buds and I at the store like to make up lip gloss recipes! It's so fun! Really! I mean the store is empty, and we're still there, and naturally you just start to put on more makeup. 4, 5 lip products at a time and you get these cool one of a kind lip colors! It's awesome! So I asked around at work and I am giving you girls, Straight from the horse's glossy mouth, some our our favorite lip gloss recipes! Put them on from left to right! It's like really fun math class!

Katie...I love to dip my Burt's Bees lip balm in my mineral eyeshadows. I have so many eyeshadows that I can make any lip color possible and the lipbalm feels so good, and since I can't live without lipgloss I'll top it off with gloss. I'm all about cocktails...could we call mixing shadows eye cocktails? Love your posts girl...you da bomb!!!
I absolutely love The Dior Kiss lipgloss. Two of my favorite lip cocktails are:Urban Decay Pleather Pencil in Rubber+Goldie blossom l/g on top=A sophisticated pink lip with just the right amount of berry peaking through. The pleather pencil adds a nice lipstick like base for the gloss to adhere to, making this look last for a long time. And the gloss mixes with the lipstick like texture of the pencil to create a defined but glossy, sassy but classy lip look! Too Faced gossip gloss in Snitch+ Dior Kiss l/g in Grape freeze on top=A nice pinkish purpleish shimmery lip color. It's hard to describe this combination unless you try it. But the Snitch gloss is super light pink and way too frosty, think Barbie a la 80's. But the Grape Freeze gloss adds just the right balance to it, making it totally wearable. If Angels wore lipgloss it would be a combination of these too!
I'm inspired. I'm going (literally right now) to turn my bathroom into a lipgloss layering test sight. Love ya, Katie... you're doing a great job being my Miss Sephora Know-it-all even from far away.
Kate-you make me wanna work in retail! Seriously, if I could make lipgloss cocktails at work I think I'd be a very happy person. I don't have too many cocktails recipes but Meg's on her way out here right now (a day at the pool at Lily Kane's house) so I think we'll have to try to invent some. My lip approach is more like a shot and a beer-lipstick and gloss. My current fav is Mac's Strawberry Blonde lipstick (pink with a hint of coral) with Too Faced Carney Diamond Gloss (super sparkly yellow diamonds). You inspire a lipgloss queen, girl!
I'm all about the mixing. And this morning, seriously was like Christmas when I saw that Sephora Saturday was up BEFORE I WENT SHOPPING this afternoon. The combo that I worked out today that I liked the best is Stila High Shine Lipcolor in Serena + Tarte Double-Sided Lipgloss in Gidget. A really good everyday lip but with an fantastic glow. Looks super good with the Nars Laguna that I broke down and bought today too. I can't remember who here is a super Laguna fan, but they were not kidding, it is fantastic.
Sorry-the only formula that me and the girls came up with today is that beer+pool =good. But Kate, if you find the time-could you add color descriptions to the recipes that don't have them? Sorry to make you work more but I'd love to know the results for them all! PS) TooMuch-Cocorita was the one singing the praises of Laguna. Good, huh?
I used to do this in grad school when I needed a break from research and writing. Instead of buying new lipsticks or gloss I would miss up some different colors and put it in a container. Voila, new color without the price. Another procastination technique perfected in grad school was melting down candles that have burned down in the center but still have the surrounding area. In a pinch I used tampon strings as the wicks. Works pretty good. Who knew? I don't have any recipes for the lipsticks/glosses but the next time I will def write them down and share:)
Yes yes, Sephora brand red lip liiner+Nars Red Lizard Lipstick+Nars Scandal lipgloss= the perfect bloodred lip!! And mixing Dior clear lip gloss with Too Faced Heiress eyeshadow makes for a great shiney metallic pink lip. Throw on some Nars moonfleet gloss on top for some amazing gold sparkle! And Bare Escentuals true gold eyeshadow is THE BEST in adding some amazing sparkly gold to any lip product!! And yes ladies, Laguna was sent from the makeup Gods to us dainty peons! Throw on some Albotross (Nars) highlighter, and you're one sexy lady!
Work in retail Desert Doll, you could open your own retail store after viewing that vanity of yours.................hee hee hee Love ya girl!!
Sure will, desert doll. I'll probably just email the entire post to Meg again and she can just paste over. I'm sure she'll be obliging. Beer + Pool = good, but better for me If I'd been there!

Cargo The Bronzer in medium (applied wet and left to dry for two minutes atleast) + Clinique butter shine lipstick in Blushing Coral (blotted off after two minutes) + clear longlasting lipglossthe bronzer has a nice orangy bronze color that lasts even after the lipstick gives way, the blushing coral adds a pinkness to take away some of the oranginess and make it more natural & and its more of a creamy finish which is blotted off. the gloss just makes it nice and shiny!
the result is a natural bronzy pink with shine!
Yeah, Desertdoll, send me a save the date card for your next garage sale.

I want to here some experimentation results girls!

I mix my lipsticks all the time. I actually learned from my friends that just because a product is made for the eyes does not mean it is excluded from using elsewhere. I usually wear....Rimmel lip liner in wine, Mac lipstick in Lustering, and N.Y.C. lipgloss in pink kiss. BEAUTIFUL!!!I am always mixing up lippies!
A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.

I do this all the time. I like to put a layer of a bright color I'd never feel comfortable wearing at full strangth, blot and then add a layer of gloss. More staying power and depth then the gloss has alone.
