SHOULD I BUY THIS? URBAN DECAY EYESHADOW PRIMER!

Tue, 04/10/2007 - 9:39pm
  • Eyes

Part of the benefits of lying in bed, drinking too much wine, smoking too many cigs and slaving over my keyboard writing about cosmetics is the money I'm saving. Sure, now I have bedsores and cirrhosis, a slight case of emphysema but I also get sent free beauty products. Is it worth it? Um, is the Pope Catholic?

It really takes something special to make me part with my vice cash so I need to know..Has Anyone Out in CYBERSPACE used Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer? The Benefit one works fine but I am really eyeing the Urban Decay version. I love the groovy packaging and I love the idea of a disappearing primer applied with a wand! It's $15 dollars (or one bottle of wine) at Sephora.

That's not a lot of money but since I get free things I'm frugal with my cosmetic dollahs.

So, makeup community, does anyone own this? Should I own it? Anything that claims to make your eye shadow "last and last" has a very interested audience in me since my eye shadow should be renamed Harry Houdini. My skins on the oily side, I'm wondering if this is a "must have". Does it really stop eyeliner from running? Will I still have color on my lids all day? Was there a grassy knoll ?

So should I buy this or not?

Buy it here

I LOVE this stuff! It is a little slice of heaven in a bottle. Before I used this, my shadow and liner would smudge and cake in my eyelid creases by day end. Now, my eye shadow and liner don't budge all day with this primer. This product definitely lives up to its promises. I don't know how I survived before eyeshadow and foundation primers - they have become "essentials" in my makeup routine!

UDPP is an amazing primer. I love it for doing a smokey eye and when I want my eye shadow to look intense. However I will say I don't use it much cause it's anextra step and requires you to let it "set" for a minuteor two. I am sick of already waiting on my primer and sunscreen to set.Oh, and, a "friend" noticed that after she passedout without washing her face one night, her eye makeuplooked exactly the same the next morning. Worth it andlives up to the hype!

I am writing up a review of this product on my product review site, and I came across your site when I searched it. I don't think it's worth it, but I'm intrigued that so many of your reviewers love it. It's not that it doesn't work, but that I don't really need it. My eye shadow pretty much stays put already. Just to be sure, I only put the primer on one eye and applied eye shadow and liner on both eyes. Anyway, my 2 cents is that it's not necessary.

Primer! primer! primer! Without a good primer you are asking for trouble. If you're spending the time to put on a pretty face use this primer! It's awesome. Really. That's it, and that's all! Go to Sophora or wherever you must to give it a whirl! Urban Decay's is the best i've used so far.. i have a prep and primer by MAC and i likethis 100x more!

I bought this on the recommedation of a Sephora salesclerk and she was right -it's outstanding. You only need to use a small amount so it lasts for a long time. I'm still using the first bottle that I bought last October. It really holds my eyeshadow in place, without creasing, even on days when allergies make my eyes water. I highly recommend this product! The bottle looks really cute on my dressing table as well!

Yes, absolutely! I ran around lower Manhattan on St. Patrick's Day wearing bright green eyeshadow -- *twelve* hours later, after shopping, stomping through the cold slush (it had snowed the day before), eating cupcakes... my eyeshadow hadn't creased. Without UDPP, creasing is pretty much inevitable for me within a few hours. Definitely worth it.

On top of the 30% discount on the urban decay website...they also have a "love it or leave it" guarantee. Here's what they say "If you don’t love our products, for any reason, we’ll take it back within 45 days of the order date AND refund the full product price."...You will never get a discount like this. Sephora's Friends and Family discount is only 20%....www.urbandecay.com enter code FFF30 at checkout!!!!! Code is good until Aug 3oth only!!!

I don't really wear eye shadow either, but I still highly recommend this product. I rub my eyes when I get tired and frustrated (especially now with allergy season starting) so even though I use waterproof mascara, I end up with a grey cast from the mascara under my eyes. But this product has put an end to that. I think it might be a matter of skin type, environmental conditions -- including level of physical activity -- and the products used.

Yep, you guys know your stuff. This product is the best. I don't know how (and really don't care) but this stuff could stop an oil tanker in it's tracks. I really love it. It does not crease! I'll say this again IT DOES NOT CREASE! Not even in 90-100 degree, southern, humid, icky-sticky, I need another shower after I just got out 30 minutes ago weather! I'm oily enough these days I might have to see if UDPP could multi-task in my t-zone.

it really is true. this is the best stuff ever. i used to use mary kay primer and it helped alittle but i read about this product so much that i had to try it. once i started using it, the idea of wearing eye shadow without it makes no sense. i work 8-5, and can literally put this on at 7:30 in the morning, apply my eyeshadow, and it still looks the same at five when i leave work. not only that, but many times i'll go places and not add shadow, and it is almost as pigmented atsay, one am as it was at 7:30. AMAZING. this was my first ever urban decay product and after i got it it made me want to buy an eyeshadow palette too, which is also fantastic, but this works with pretty much any eye shadow and will even make cheap eyeshadows have amazing staying power.

I love this product. I have somewhat oily skin so my eyeshadow would always get creasy, or just wear off after a few hours. I really like to do some funky, artsy things with my eye makeup and this product is awesome for that. It keeps everything in its place and makes it nice and bright. The only problem I have is that it can make blending a little difficult.

I'm obsessed with this primer. I work at Sephora, and it is by far one of my favorite products in the store. My shadow and liner seriously do not budge. It even helps cream shadows, which are notorious for creasing, stay put. I've gone to bed withouttaking my makeup off before (a big no no, i know), and everything has rubbed off except my eyeshadow. Love it.

I use this product everytime I wear eyeshadow - I have tried several other primers, but this one is the best! hardly anything looks worse that bleeding or creasing eyeshadow (especially green, like the other ladies green eyeshadow is my fave this season), that this Urban Decay product is the answer to long lasting color. One thing I noticed is that you have to use an eyemakeup remover to get it all off, my mild lotion cleanser doesn't seem to do the trick

Hate to be the odd gal out but I find this really makes my powder eyeshadow go on dry! My eyelids were more "crinkly" - not the look I'm going for. And my powder liner didn't seem to stay in place any better than it usually does - i.e. it ended up migrating to the crease in my eyelid!!! Will keep experimenting since I bought the tube but not really impressed with this.

Ok, so I'm late to the Primer Potion Party. But my face eats eyeshadow, within an hour I would say. And I figured, despite its rave reviews that it couldn't possibly solve my little problem because I can NEVER get eyeshadow to stay. Well I plunked down the $15 last week and got myself a bottle. And OH MY LORD. (I also bought the benefit big beautiful eyes palette, which I also highly recommend) and my shadow is still looks great at 3:30. THAT NEVER HAPPENS. I still do have big beautiful eyes. I'm completely hooked. I do wonder at what point I will say, I simply cannot add another product to my morning routine. (we're at about 7 doing bare minimum).

I have both this and the primer in Sin. I love it, and wear it even on light makeup days. I like the Sin with just an eye liner for a more simple look, but it seems to me that the original holds shadow better.  That's just my opinion. A bottle lasts a really long time, and you don't seem to go through your regular eye shadow as quickly (since you don't need to touch up during the day/after work), so maybe that will help if you are put off by the price.

I have just recently purchased Loreal Decrease due to some good reviews I came across, & I honestly cannot tell the difference between the two! Well, expect that Loreal is a lot cheaper and the packaging makes a little more sense. I think I may be sticking with Decrease.**Just to note: I usually don't leave my eyeshadow on for more than 10-12 hours, but Decrease definitely held up for me!!

This definitely does a great job keeping my eyeliner and (minimal) eyeshadow on every day for my everyday look. I know it's an extra step, but it takes less than a second to swipe on some primer! And while you're letting it set you can do your foundation, etc. It's totally worth it! :) Especially if you're going out at night! Smokey eyes that last till the next day? AWESOME!

There's no doubt that UDPP is a fantastic product that really does what it's supposed to. My eyelids are pretty oily so I really do need a primer in order for my eyeshadow to stay put and not crease, and this really is fantastic. The one thing I absolutely HATE about this though is how impractical the packaging is. The fact that you actually have to cut open the tube and scoop out all the product (that you can't reach with the wand) is ridiculous. If you didn't know to do that, you'd be wasting so much product and money! I wish they'd change the design and then maybe I'd try repurchasing this.. but until they do that I'm gonna stick to other products that don't have such poorly designed packaging.

This is one of the products that I tried once and never let out of my handbag again! I like using bold eyeshadows, but I used to put them on strictly for parties - I was hoping that by the time my shadow was melting and under my eyes, everyone was too drunk to notice. But it is not so anymore, thanks to this little magic bottle. I had a couple ColoreScience Genie colours - they are concentrated mineral pigments and really nice colours BTW, but they always smudged no matter how much or how little you used. And now I use them ALL THE TIME because they look fab!!! And that's because they have nowhere to run anymore, they seem to love to bond with Urban Decay eye primer. Go for it, totally worth it!

I got a sample of this with a Sephora purchase and loved it.  It kept my shadow and liner in place, without creasing and gave me better color payoff.  I love putting this on my lid up to the crease and then using a single shadow as a wash of color with deeper intensity close to the lashline and softening to a highlighter above the crease.  But, when I went to purchase after the sample ran out I was totally turned off by the packaging.  Such a stupid container.  It is bulky in your makeup bag and then you either leave half the product behind or have to perform surgery on it.  I picked up Too Faced Shadow Insurance instead and like that a lot.  When that runs out, I'm tempted to try Benefit's Stay Put or UDPP in Eden (even with the stupid packaging) to neautralize the ruddy coloring on my eyelids -- especially if I'm doing a cool tone eye.
