KOSE' SEIKISHO MASK WHITE !!

Thu, 02/15/2007 - 12:36am
  • Face

The fantastic and gorgeous Mio from Kose' sent Megs Make Up out some of the Seikisho Mask White to test. As I said in the Scott Barnes Hydrating mask post, I have used a bunch of masks in my time. I started to gravitate away from them. They're fine to apply and I can hang out while they dry but they're a total pain and mess to remove. I get that stuff all in my hairline, up my nose, on my ears. After the scrubbing to get it off my face looks pretty red.

Ahhh, hooray for technology! Scott Barnes totallly got it right when all you have to do to remove his mask was remove the moist sheet from your face. I loved how easy that was! When the Seikisho Mask White came I saw it came in a tube and my initial thought was "Aargh, another muckety mess to scrub off". Then I read the directions and was intrigued. It said to put the mask on thick, let it dry and PEEL IT OFF! Peel it off! How genius is that? Just like a scooby-doo villian I could actually peel my face off Just like the inn-keeper that actually was the jewel thief. I was always shocked at those episodes. Back to the mask, I was actually looking forward to trying this!

I waited for when I had a zen moment and followed the directions to the t. I globbed it on thick and waited. While I was waiting, I remembered a tip I was once told. When you're having an awful T-zone oil break-out and in a pinch here's a quick remedy. It's squeeze out, cow on the plastic bottle Elmer's glue.
You can glob that on your T-zone let it dry and peel it off. In the process you'll pull out dead skin cells and blackheads. However it's nowhere near as a nice or relaxing experience as this mask is. This mask smells great, I think I was a little high after my Elmer's treatment so I wouldn't try that tip before using heavy machinery.

Here's what Kose' has to say about their Seikisho Mask White.."This black mask helps increase clearity and add radiance to your skin. This mask also helps remove dirt and impurities to thoroughly clean skin and enhance translucency of your skin. It adheres closely to the skin surface and lifts away dullness with a mild tingling sensation. Remove the mask to reveal a glowing, smooth complexion. *Formulated with oriental herb extract".

Ladies please post is Seikisho Mask white has the right formula with their peel off mask or if Elmer's is where it's at?

Buy it here

Similarly, I have a fear of peel-off masks but I put on a brave face and tried this one. I didn't mind the black, I kinda' liked the texture going on and I didn't have any problems with drips. It wasn't completely dry after 20 minutes so I let it go for a few extra. I got a little panicked because I was having trouble getting a grip on a place to start peeling but I finally got one and it did come off in one sheet. But boy that baby was glued on there. I really had to pull! I was imagining with all that pulling that I was pulling little blackheads right out of their sockets (like the Biore strip result that I have always been promised and never acheived.) But alas, nothing much had changed. Skin looked decent but nothing to jump up and down about and a bit on the dry side.

I did not have a very zen like expirence with this at all. 2 words come to mind: ouch and yuck. Yuck because this black mask makes you look a bit like the creature from the black lagoon with it on. Why this is called "white" is a mystery to me. Yuck also because it's very hard to wash off your fingers. It took scrubbing and scrapping so I found that a bit scary. Ouch because, holy cow-this hurt to remove! I may have left it on a bit too long but I really had to pull to get this off. And Yuck once again for the dry, scaly (yes-scaly) mess it made my skin after it was removed. I hate to be harsh, but I really disliked this. Beautyzilla-you can have mine!

Like other peel-off masks, this is kind of sticky to put on, but the fresh, clean, and slightly herbal scent makes wearing it feel almost therapeutic. I'm not sure that I see any whitening effects per se, but my skin definitely looks brighter and smoother afterwards. Pores are also diminished -- probably because the mask has pulled out all the blackheads and gunk. It's like those old school Biorè pore strips -- the blackness of the mask lets you see all the dirt and debris removed from your skin. Gross, yet fascinating! Be sure to put enough of this on, or you'll have trouble peeling it off. You want to get it just at the point that you can't see your pores through the mask anymore. However, if you go overboard, the mask won't dry properly. It sounds tricky, but it only takes a couple of uses to figure out what works best. This deep-cleansing mask would be great for oily skin, or skin prone to breakouts. Even for somewhat dry skin, it's beneficial because it gets all those dry flakes off. If you're very dry or sensitive, however, you might want to be careful, because the pulling-off process might irritate your skin. And finally, if you put this mask too close to your eyebrows or hairline, don't try peeling it off those areas -- yeeowtch! Instead, remove what you can comfortably, and just wash the rest off with water or a washcloth.

If you ask me, there just aren't enough masks out there that you remove by peeling off in one big sheet! But Kose delivers on that front! When I was little I remember my mom doing this type of mask and I thought it was the coolest! Besdies being able to peel it off, this mask made my skin feel amazing! Soft and glowing! The dead skin that causes a dull look, was gone! And it smells DEVINE!! It smells so good I would wear it if it were a perfume! I would wash my clothes in it if it were laundry detergent! I would burn it if it were a candle! I have one problem with this mask: I LEFT MINE AT MEG'S HOUSE IN L.A.!!! :(

O.K. so to begin with I am not a fan of anything that adhears to my face and has to be pulled off, but I have never used any of Kose Seikisho's products so I figured lets give it a try. Well now I know what people mean when they say "stick to your gut instinct?, because this stuff was not at all a fan of me either. First off, I don't like the fact that the product is black because I feel that a mask that color never spreads evenly. The consistency of this mask was just not at all a hydrating or refreshing experience. The consistency of it was very cakey and dried quickly before being able to apply it. Then I actually had to wash with my face wash to get it over rather than coming off with lukewarm water like most masks do. My skin was left irritated and red, rather than white? I definitely did not have an enjoyable experience with this product and I'm sure it didn't help that I was paranoid the whole time while wearing it.....I read the warnings!

I’m sad to report that I also was not a fan of the Seikisho Mask white. In general, I love masks but this one missed the mark in some key areas. The packaging is sleek and I kind of dug the glossy black mask. The directions suggest a thick layer and since it’s sort of runny, I had some problems with drips. You’re supposed to rinse it immediately with water if it gets on your clothes, but how do I get the t-shirt off with a goopy mask all over my face? I just took the loss; luckily, I had an old bedtime tee on, no big deal. The mask smells nice - crisp and refreshing. But I thought it took way too long to dry. Twenty minutes (as the directions stated) is just too long for me, plus it took a few minutes longer than that. When I thought it was completely dry, I peeled it off. Or, more accurately, chipped it off bit by bit. This stuff just did not want to be peeled off in a nice sheet. After much rinsing and more chipping, the final results were fairly meh. No redness or flakes, and my skin felt really clean but it was a little tight. I skipped the suggested toner, used a light moisturizer and called it a night. Sorry, this mask is too time consuming for the average results.

This masque is amazing! I got it first as a sample with my sephora order, then I purchased the full size, and I've re-purchased twice since then! I also bought another masque from them, it's a cream masque, which I would not ordinarily use on my oily skin, but it leaves it glowing, without any sticky or oily residue. It's the perfect antidote to a stress-filled which which ends with you going to sleep with all your makeup on, and waking up the next day afraid to take it off because you just know what's underneath will not be pretty. Yes, I speak from experience on this.
