DERMOLOGICA MULTI-ACTIVE TONER !!

Tue, 01/23/2007 - 6:56pm
  • Face

The fabulous rep, Melissa from Dermalogica sent Meg's Makeup some of their Multi-Active Toner. This was such an exciting coup for Meg's Make-Up, I've always loved the Dermologica line so I hope this is the start of a long relationship!

Toner is a very confusing product to me. Dermologica was kind enough to let me select the product of my choice. I wanted to try a toner because I haven't used one since I was a pre-teen and tried Sea Breeze. It stung the heck out of my skin and that was pretty much it for me.

Well, here's the thing. Sea Breeze is not a toner. It's an astringent. What's the difference between astringent and toner? ALCOHOL! Astringents are used for oily skin, toners are used to refresh. Usually, toners will have soothing ingredients to draw moisture to the skin.

When I looked at Dermologica's Multi-Toner I saw some pretty calming ingredients...Lavender, Balm Mint & Aloe. There would definitely be no stinging with those properties!

I am really glad I decided to revisit toner! Now I know toner works for me, astringent is my real culprit!

Ladies please post your thoughts on Dermalogica's Multi-Active Toner.

I am a big fan of toners. They really make your skin feel soft. That being said, this one was a bit of a disappointment for me. It was not really an even, light mist. It was a jet stream. When I tried using it to set makeup it just made my mascara run. I didn't feel balanced or refreshed from this one. Just wet. Dior and Decleor both make great toners. The Caudalie beauty elixir happens to be my favorite.

Since my skin is normal to dry I'm not a big toner person. I always feel like toners are drying to my skin and usually skip this step and lean more towards exfoliating and moisturizing. Dermalogica multi-active toner was a really nice surprise. I felt it was really hydrating to my skin and helped me keep moisture all day long. I love the light smell of Lavender and it made my skin feel fresh, clean and natural. I didn't affect how my makeup wears during the day at all which was another bonus! I'm a fan of this line I think they really know their skin

This product seems nice. It's always great to add another layer of mositure to my routine. But I'm not sure I notice much difference. The Ole toner we tried really packed a punch, whereas this one just feels refreshing. Similar to evian spray. Here's a great idea for this jumbo bottle of hydration. Pack it on ice and use it at the beach or pool on your next trip to that tropical island! I know this brand has a great reputation, so I would reccomend this product based on that.

I'm reading Meg's post and lol. I have not thought of Sea Breeze or astringent for 100 years! This brings me to an eternal cosmetic question -- what in the hell IS toner? Am I the only one that finds this whole category hazy and vague? What in the name of God does it do? If it moisturizes, then why do I have to use it in addition to my moisturizer? My fears were realized many years ago as I sat in the office of my Beverly Hills dermatologist -- the famous Dr. Rhonda Rand and we were discussing products that I was using on my skin and as she loomed above me, she shouted, "What IS toner??? -- What does it DO?" That was pretty much the end of me and toner. I tried this one and again, didn't get it. I like the Dermalogica people. I think there is an opportunity to clarify for us the point of toner. But right now, I'm lost.

First things first, how brilliant to have your toner in a spray bottle. Such a simple idea but so much better than a plain old bottle. This spray pump evenly distributes the Dermalogica Toner in a light mist. One less step and cotton ball for my bedtime ritual.Like Meg promises, this toner is not harsh or drying. It both tones and moisturizes my skin, which is great during these winter months. My skin has been red and blotchy lately with the inside heat and cold outdoors. A few spritzes with this really calms my skin and takes away some of the redness. The scent is light and has a faint lavender smell. It works so well with my combo skin, that I think this would be good for all skin types

Like trix6 I’ve been told over the years that tones aren’t necessary so I stopped using them. When we received this product from Dermalogica, because of their reputation I was game to give a toner a try again. In summers past I’ve used their tined moisturizer and really like it. I guess I’m old school if I’m going to use a toner I like the kind I can put on a cotton ball and wipe over my face to make sure my face is completely cleaned. To me that is why you would use a toner. I did like the smell of this and the fact that the spray came out evenly and covered all of my face in a couple of sprays. I like the suggestion of having this in a travel size for my purse. A spray or 2 in the middle of the day would be a great pick me up. So the next time I’m at the drug store I’m going to pick up a small spray bottle and transfer some toner into it. Thanks Pamelairene for the suggestion! For me if I’m going to spend the money on a Dermalogica product I think there are better ones in their line than this one.

I was totally excited to receive this toner since Dermalogica has such a great name. Also, i rarely use toner so it a bit of a treat. The spray was pretty light and perfect if i can call it that. Not too bad of a scent and it absorbs quite quickly. I did feel like my skin enjoyed the mist and maintained much moisturer from it so i'm givingit a thumbs up. Since i live in California and the weather has been awfully dry, the toner came at the right time.I use this daily now with my Dermalogica Body Lotion and feel extremely hydrated.Would recommend this toner as well as all of their other products.

I was very excited to try a Dermalogica product. There's a lot of "Derma" products out there and they are pretty much the grandaddy of them all. But sadly, I found this to be rather unexciting. I liked the spray bottle and due to the ease of it, I did use it on my neck and chest when I got out of the shower, areas I know I should moisturize but always forget to. But that's about it. It didn't smell like anything to me, I didn't feel particularly hydrated, and it didn't feel like it added anything to my skin that I was lacking. It kind of just felt like water. I need way more "oomph" in a face product than I got here.

I was slightly skeptical about this product. Traditional toners and I do not getalong. They make my skin red and irritated. This product is different. It delivered on its promise of added moisture and conditioning. It was refreshing and made skin feel like silk. It was a surprise.

Dermalogica- multi-active toner.SOLD! I found this to be one of the best toners I’ve ever tried. Like the many gains of sand on the beach, so is the array of toners on my vanity! This is a great multi-active toner.. Just remember to shut your eyes! DAH!!! I thoroughly enjoyed trying this product for the first time. It is loaded with excellent ingredients for your pretty face. I want this in a travel size for my pocketbook (purse)! What I particularly like is the fact that it has one of my favorite ingredients, Arnica! Arnica is known in the skincare industry and in Europe for its wonderful healing properties. I absolutely recommend it for your face when it’s stressed out or sensitive. Spritz on this mega hydration and if you like a hint of lavender and mint you too will love this. The other plus is that it contains no artificial fragrance or color. Simple and pure.

This sounds like an interesting product.  I just tried the "derma" brand for the first time.  I may broaden my horizons and try this.  Does anyone have any other recommendations in the Dermalogica line?

glad to see so many ladies enjoying the MA toner!a quick clarification (in the hopes of not being too "blah blah blah..." & more educational.....)      old school toners (sea breeze, astringents, etc) were actually used to "tone" the skin to return it to a 'somewhat' normal pH level. most of the cleansers associated with these brands are very alkaline (some with a pH the same as Ajax!!)& therefore leave your skin that way after use...these tones then would return skin to a more normal pH level.     regular skin pH is a 4.5- 5.5. All of Dermalogica's cleansers fall around this range so they are not changing the pH of your skin drastically. (which is GREAT!!) Dermalogica's toners, instead, are used for hydration, soothing & calming the skin, firming the skin, and providing antioxidants & helpful ingredients to the skin. ~ they're also great @ setting makeup or keeping cool for a summer 'pick me up' for your skin!dermalogica's toners:multi active toner : great for all skin...esp. normal/combination & oilysoothing protection spray: esp. good for sensitive, sensitized, & rosaceaantioxidant hydramist: contains ingred. to firm the skin -from the AgeSmart line(oh & a toner should never be used to 'cleanse' ..)Hope this was helpful to some extent! ♥ Jennskin therapistdermalogica account

Thank you J.m.L.  that is good information.  Most people don't know or use toner (I have found anyway).      I am a big toner person.  It absolutely does make a difference.  If you are going to take the time to cleanse, then cleanse correctly.  I have used this brand from Ulta, but not this toner.  I do like this brand.

I love Dermalogica! (but not it's prices...$$$$!) This toner is great, you just mist it over your face (try not to inhale) and you're good to go! It smells great and leaves your face feeling fresh and glowing all day! It lasts forever too, since you only mist on a bit.
