AFTERGLOW COSMETICS MULTI-TASKING LOOSE MINERAL EYE SHADOW!!
The sultry Kristan from Afterglow Cosmetics sent Meg's Makeup some beautiful Multi-Tasking Loose Mineral Eye Shadow out to try in an array of fabulous colors!
Have you ever noticed when you go shopping you always stare at a new item for your wardrobe, you stop and feel it and then you hold it up to yourself and picture it on. I do that. Then I turn to my girlfriend BeBe and gush "Oh, I loove this". Nine times out of ten, BeBe will look at me and say, "Meg, you own 4 other pieces exactly the same in your closet". Upon closer inspection, I will admit that I do and keep looking. Before we leave the store, I run back to it and buy it.
The same rings true for my eye shadow basket. Yes, I wrote basket. I have a specific basket in my powder room for each product. When I look into my eye shadow basket it's a bit pathetic. Like, yup, really thought that color was working for me so I ran with it. Do I ever run with it! Chocolate brown, sable brown, mocha, golden caramel, java, sienna, cocoa (O.K. so I use a lot of brown).
I went to lunch with a girlfriend and she said, "you're so daring and love color. I picked this eyeliner up for you". She then handed me an eyeliner from Too Faced Cosmetics in...Turquoise Tinsel. I graciously went insane for it on the outside. On this inside? I was freaking out. Turquoise? What was I going to do with Turquoise?
I was heading out to BeBe's house (yes, we spend a lot of time together). It was just an errand day and I wasn't expecting any paparazzi shots (O.K., a girl can dream, Stars! They’re just like us). I grabbed the Turquoise liner and paired it with, believe it or not, brown eye shadow. When I got to BeBe's she looked at me and said "You're eye make-up looks really good. What is that?
Yup, we had a winner with the Turquoise. What have I been missing my whole life by my commitment to brown? What has brown ever done for me? Don't it make my brown eyes blue. I am exciting! I am daring! A new woman if you will!
When BeBe called me to tell me the eye shadow color choices Afterglow sent (yes, I do have other friends, she just stars a lot in this story) I yelled to her, "SAVE ME THE EMERALD GREEN! or TURQUOISE!! Did they send Turquoise? I look fab in Turquoise. No? O.K. SAVE me the EMERALD PLEASE"!!
As a new adventurous woman, I wanted the sparkly Emerald. It was the holidays! Nothing says "I'm a good, festive girl" like Emerald paired with ruby lips.
I wore my new emerald shadow out to a tree-trimming soiree and "yes"! I was complimented up the ying-yang!
So score 2 for trying new colors! I learned a lot from that little unscientific experience. Experiment. Color look garish in tube? Well, give it a shot on before you walk away! That dress would make you look like a heifer? Maybe or maybe like a voluptuous Goddess! Try it on! Getting out of our comfort zone is a good thing. What's the worst that could happen? Neon purple with gold flecks? Bring it!

I think Afterglow has changed their product quite a bit since this review was done. I know that they no longer use micron sized particles because of the chance that it could get into the blood stream. so they upped the size a micron or two ;) haha. I just have to say I love love love their new color lock! its a pump bottle that has clear liquid in it that you pump a drop or so into your favorite afterglow powder eye products. I use it with my eye shadow and powder eye liners from them. the color lock really brings up the pigment in the eye colors, more vibrant than using just water. It also lasts all day without creasing or fading or any fall out. Plus, and this is truly magical; it washed off with water at the end of the day. no more eye makeup remover! no more residue! no more raccoon eyes! This is a miracle product for someone like me who....hates washing off makeup before bed. It now only takes me a few seconds to get eye makeup off.
i had no idea these cosmetics from afterglow were natural and paraben free and what not!! (so excited) lol
I tried this in Spur and liked it. It has a lovely sparkle and goes on easily with your finger. I also tried it over my MAC Black Carbon eye shadow and it added a nice touch. I also found with this type of eyeshadow it's good to use a wet brush if you want a more dramatic effect. With this once applied wet it had the ultra tin man of OZ color which I liked, but if your a more subtle eye shadow user this may not be for you. If you like sparkles, and flair you should give this a try, and I think you'll be quite pleased! Stays on nice, and it was totally non irratating to my eyes which was great because some sparkle eyeshadows really hurt if they get in your eye! This is a very gentle good product!
While I’m a fan of mineral make up, I’m not a great big fan of the eye shadows. They tend to be a bit messy. I have to say that after using Afterglow shadows my out look on them changed a bit. The little pot that the shadows come in have a insert that has 3 or 4 holes in it that allows just a small amount of shadow to come out when I tap it into the lid. I’d rather have less come out than to much as I end up tossing the unused away. The 2 colors I received were Spur which was too silvery for me. The other color is Coco. I really like this one. There is a shimmer to it but it’s not over the top so I’m comfortable wearing it during the day. And it night when I want to play dress up I just add more to my eye lids for a more dramatic look. Afterglow has me thinking twice about mineral eye shadows.
I got the gold (radient)and silver (spur)colors and i have to say I didn't like either one of them. They were WAY too metalic for me. The gold color was very yellowish. I love a shimmery high lighting shadow. But this was disco fever! I also didn't care for the consistancy. It was drying in a way that it seemed to settle into every crease making my eyelids look dryer and older then they actually do. That is not a look that I strive for. It reminded me of a cheap drugstore brand eye shadow. Keep in mind that I have yet to meet a mineral make-up that I like, but I have heard other people rave about them. Ir you are a mineral powder lover, give this product a shot.
I'm giving this a no, but it's more for the colors than the product. I recieved Spur ( a very light grey) and Sweetheart ( a bizarre iridescent peach/pink) and I found both of them to be too light and deposit next to no color. Just Sparkle, lots of sparkle. On a positive, good packaging and nice smooth loose shadow with no to little creasing. I'd like to try these in the emerald or peacock blue mentioned above because I'm sure they're way more vibrant than what I have. But these are going to be passed on to a shimmer lovin' pre-teen.
I went back to check my shades. They were Detour (plum) and Peacock Green.
Southern Peach adds a light dose of shimmer to any color you combine it with. I think its a very versatyle product with great consistency.Would def recommed to those who are makeup pros as opposed to novices like myself.
To start this review, I must comment that Meg’s excitement over trying new shades was an inspiration. I also always go for the browns shades when it comes to eye shadows - they just look natural and make my blue eyes pop. Well, with Meg’s urging I tried a daring new color - Peacock Blue from the Afterglow Eye Shadow collection. The color is exactly what you would imagine - vivid, bold and blue, blue, blue. This powder is loose in its container, so you have to be careful and have a steady hand when applying. The good part is that this is a really intense pigment and can be used wet or dry. When I used the color as an eyeshadow (dry) it seemed to “fight” with my eyes for attention. The color is really pretty but just didn’t work for my complexion as a shadow. However, I also used a damp, flat brush and have been using this color as an eyeliner. The color is still bold and bright and really works for me on a smaller scale. It is not an everyday look but is a great, dramatic look for night time. The color blends well and is long lasting - no creasing. I’m looking forward to trying this product in some of the other amazing colors available. I love that this one small container can be so versatile - wet or dry, shadow or liner - what a great value!
Funny that the theme with these shadows is trying out new colors. I was automatically gravitating to the smoky grey but that same Bebe convinced me that I already have so many smoky greys, why not try the dark smoky green or the plum? After agreeing, I must have put them back 3 times in favor of that beautiful dark grey. With talk of the holidays and opportunities to try new things, I finally marched out with the dark green and plum. I LOVE THEM BOTH! The green is so dark, it's almost smoke but with a subtle dark mossy tint and from what I understand, Plum is the new grey. I agree that you have to have a good brush because these shadows are pretty intense and the loose powder can slip away from you if you aren't careful.
I got the Sweetheart.. It was a big hit at the office birthday party in our conf.room today. I happen to love the color-it's light and you can cover your entire eyelid up to your brow... it's shimmery and goes on with even your fingers. A little messy at first but it's perfectly fine. I put some on cheeks and that worked nicley too! It reminded my of Jane Iredale's products..which i like too. I do like this product and think it should do very well!
It's so messy! I'm a klutz and I spilled it all over my room.... NOT GOOD....
Gorgeous eyeshadow colors! There are so many new colors that I want to try and play with..

Those are lovely colours!!
i love this
i was never very daring either with eye shadow. It was mostly very light pinks or just very natural looking. Now that I have learned more about make up I use a bunch of different colours. You just have to know how to match them and blend very well so it looks awesome =)
Thank you for the review. Turquoise is my next color
