AWAKE INVENTION HYDRO-MANAGE MAKEUP BASE PRIMER!

Mon, 12/18/2006 - 11:31am
  • Face

The amazing Mio from Awake Cosmetics sent us a box of this Hydro-Manage makeup base primer along with their Hydro-Manage makeup. We already reviewed the makeup and it got raves! I wonder if the primer will fare as well.

It's funny how all these cosmetic company’s have their holy grail product. With Awake it's water. It's hydro this and hydro that. The girls even commented in their reviews that their skin felt the smooth hydration. Juice beauty? They don't use water, they claim the best is moisture is...Juice. The juice result was a hit as well. I'm hoping the real winner in this search for youth is fermented grapes. I'd be the clear winner in that race.

Awake Cosmetics has this to say about their Hydro-Manage Makeup Base Primer..."A complexion-illuminating makeup primer that features an 85% water content and two different pearls to dramatically enhance the application and wear of foundation. Packed with emollients to provide hydrating coverage all day long".

Ladies, please post if Awake's Hydro Primer was the perfect thirst quencher for your complexion!

When I saw that Meg had sent me the Awake primer, I... well, I squealed a little bit, because the prospect of trying a new and fantastic primer excites me like that. But upon examining it, I got a bit worried. Sparkles! What's with all the sparkles in your products, Awake? Are sparkles the secret to making one look bright-tailed and bushy-eyed? Anyway, this grey substance feels like a nice, light moisturizer going on. Not quite creamy, but close. It takes a couple seconds to sink in, but doesn't feel at all heavy or weird. It does look really really SHINY right after application. But don't worry, just go ahead and put your foundation on over top, and finish it off with a light dusting of loose powder. This leaves you with a perfect, flawless finish! The shininess got subdued to a soft glow, which made me look all healthy and well-rested and like I hadn't stayed up all night drinking Tab and forgetting to take my vitamins. Plus it was very forgiving to minor imperfections. My skin felt soft and hydrated, and my foundation stayed fresh throughout the day. Using this under the Awake foundation was still pretty, but I didn't like it quite as much. A wee bit too sparkly for me. Maybe for one of those special candle-lit dinners, it would be just the thing, but for everyday, it was a titch too much. But totally a thumbs-up on this primer -- it is especially wonderful for perking up dull, dry, winter skin. I think I like it even better than the Smashbox primer for giving a flawless look (although this won't smooth the skin as well as the Smashbox will). Hurray for Awake!

Beautyzilla is right, this primer is different than any other I have tried. I was already a fan of primers - they help my foundation glide on and keep it out of fine lines, plus it helps the foundation to set and the make-up is still there at the end of the day. The best and most unique thing about Awake’s Hydro-Manage Make-Up Base is that it doesn’t have that slippery feel and therefore it really soaks into your skin. It still does all that primers should do but without forming that barrier between the skin and make-up. I really like the difference that this makes in the moisture level of my skin - it helped to keep my make-up from cracking and/or disappearing by the end of the day. The only thing I didn’t like was the shimmer. My skin already leans to the greasy side and the glitter looked more shiny and sweaty than fresh face dewy on me. I would love to try this base without any glitter.

Before trying the Awake make-up, I had never heard of this line or for that matter ever tried a primer before using this Awake primer! I have been stuck on tinted moisturizers for a while, so I usually apply my make-up over that. I absolutely loved the makeup but since I was inexperienced with primer, I didn't know if I would feel the same way. Well, I have to say that I my face has been missing out big time!! I don't know if all primers are this fabulous or if this one takes the prize, but either way I loved the results. The primer was like using a moisturizer, but was not at all greasy and really smoothed out any dryness in my skin, so that my make-up application went on flawless. I also noticed that i did not have to use as much make-up or spend as much time blending in. I can't imagine not using a primer after using this!

Again, I am not a primer kinda girl - the less makeup, the better, in my opinion (for the maximum result, of course!) This is really great, though - it gives a really nice sheen, moisturizes, allows the makeup to go on smoothly, and gives a pretty dewey, glowy look. Normaly, primers make me break out - due to my overly-sensitive skin - not this one! Very, very nice - I like!

You girls are crazy - its not "Sparkles" its "glow" and you're never too old for them. They visually fill in lines from far away and they give you that youthful "dewy" look. I loved it as an illuminator. But it doesn't quiiite stack up to Smashbox for priming.

I absolutely love this product! I am a major mositurizer junkie, so if I have the oportunity to add MORE steps to my moisturizing regime I am one happy chick!! This primer is so different then all th other products we've tired. The other products were silicon based ehich made for a smooth suface to apply make-up over. But this product makes my skin so dewy, that all my foundations just glide right on. It helps to keep my skin from drying out (whenever I wear make-up all day long, weather it's on a shoot or just running around the city, I look 10 years older by the end of the day). Amd it has the prettiest bit of shimmer, not an adolencense shimmer but a light-reflecting-particles type of shimmer. I would definitely buy this product again. I even use it on days when I'm not going to wear make-up.

85% water?  that sounds great!  I have oily skin, so anything that has water instead of oil, I welcome.
