AWAKE COSMETICS HYDRO-MANAGE MAKEUP!

Sun, 11/26/2006 - 8:00pm
  • Face

The Ultra-Chic rep Mio, from Awake Cosmetics (Awake Cosmetics, as sold in fancy dance Neiman's, Bergdorf's, and of course dahling Bendels) sent us some of their Hydro Manage Makeup.

I'm not worried about having enough money for retirement. I'm not worried about not being able to afford a vacation home or visiting exotic lands. I am totally stressing about the expenses related to aging. I love every store I mentioned above. I look like those orphans in movie scenes that are staring through restaurant windows watching people eat. I feel like those darn orphans. Only I'm at a red light in my car on Wilshire Boulevard staring at Barney's window displays.

What if Awake is the only product that works for me? I have no business being in those stores. If I didn't have this blog, where would I have ever heard about them? I can afford $33 for the Awake foundation. It's the $2,500 Lucien Pellat-Finet sweater in the display window that scares me off. I can't be alone in my fear. That is why I am making a vow, right now, to all meg's make-up readers. I PROMISE TO TAKE THE FEAR OUT OF THE RIDICULOUSLY HIGH-END DEPARTMENT STORE!!

I promise to not make you feel stressed out walking through the shiny brass doors. I will not make you feel like a have-not because Jean Paul Gaultier's military jacket is not in your closet. I WILL PUSH PAST THOSE DISPLAYS. I will see what boutique cosmetic brands lurk beyond. I will bring them to you.

I have never felt so Joan of Ark in my entire life. I have been sent my higher calling. Someone send me a horse.

I have never personally been a fan of foundation. Whenever I would attemp;t to try a foundation, I would think of those certain woman who wear it and thier faces never matched thier necks, so I always thought that I would have to invest in turtlenecks if I wanted to wear foundation.LOL! This product worked out to be completely opposite, it almost felt like I was applying a tinted moisturizer onto my skin....it was soo hydrating and made my skin feel like silk. I loved the way it smoothed over my face and the fact that it didn't leave a cakey residue. I recieved the color Nougat, which blended really nicely with my complextion. I really didn't even need to apply a blush or bronzer over it because it gave my skin such a nice and even appearance!

Upon first glance, I was wary of using this. The base looked like it was loaded with shimmer! Yikes. Throwing caution to the wind, I grabbed my trusty foundation brush and went at it. Then came my next surprise... the foundation felt spongey in the pan. If you press on it lightly with your finger, it "gives" a bit, and then springs back. A shimmery, spongey, foundation? Those zany Japanese make up folks! Due to the unique texture, in order to pick up the product, you kind of have to push the foundation brush lightly into the pan in a stippling motion. My third surprise came when I applied it to my face -- it feels cool! Neato. But the best thing about this foundation is the coverage. It feels barely-there, but provides this amazing, natural looking coverage. For blemishes or redness, all you have to do is dab a bit more product on, and the imperfections fade away. Even on my undereye circles, the coverage is very impressive. Those with only light circles may find that they can ditch the concealer entirely. In fact, if I were in a rush, I wouldn't bother with concealer either -- and I wouldn't do that with any other foundation I've tried to date. I got this in Apricot, which is an almost perfect match for my light/med warm skintone. It's maybe a hair on the light side, but for winter, it's a great match. This base looks incredibly skin-like, but there IS the sparkle factor to account for. If you've powdered, from far away, it just looks like glowy perfection. But up close, you can see tiny shimmer particles here and there. It doesn't feel at all gritty and it's not super obvious, but it may be a concern for some. I think I am in love with this, especially for night-time, when the shimmer thing won't matter as much. Even for day time, this is definitely on my list of favourites. Thanks Meg!

I received it in Apricot. Perfect color for me. I love the dewey finish. I've been using a foundation brush do apply it - but I might try it with a sponge and see how that works. I love the amount of coverage too. Full coverage is too-grandma and light coverage is ...not enough! Definitely a plus - and in the nick of time because I just ran out of foundation last week...

I didn't think I was going to like this at first cause it has quite a shimmer to it. I was worried I was going to look like a club kid without a whistle (how sad!) But I was delightfully surprised. I don't think I'd wear this during the day, but for night, I found the shimmer brightened my skin and made it look quite glowy. I got Champagne as well and it was a great match for me too. But the greatest thing about this product was the consistency. It has a LOT of water in it (first ingredient) and you can really feel it. It feels cool when you touch it and just glides on without any caking whatsoever. This is a really unique and fabulous product.

Awake foundation-At first I thought this product wouldn't be something I useoften. I usually don't use foundation unless I am going out-somewhere otherthan Stop-n-shop-BUT much to my surprise this product when on so light andand airy, almost with a cool sensation. It balanced out my skin withoutfeeling like I was wearing a mask. I used the shell tone, it did look toolight but blended nicely with my untanned, winterized face. (can you tell Iam in need of a sunny location!!) I recommend this product and prefer the airtight compact packaging design rather than the goopy bottle deal. amen

I've been using this makeup for about a week and love it except for the packaging. Sheisedo makes a similar product but the makeup has a separate cover so you can open the case to use the mirror without exposing the makeup, which is a great help in keeping it from drying and cracking in the case. I find it goes on fabulous usinga foundation brush instead of the sponge. Overall, I do love it.

I think if i had a book of my life it would be titled In Search of the Perfect Foundation. I must have tried them all. Sadly, some of the best are the priciest that myskin responds to. My top faves are Clea de Peau, which makes skin look like silk with nomake up on if you get the color right, and stays on all day. I also love the Dior Foundation spray as it goes on light and gives flawless coverage. Recently, I have also used the baressentials mineral makeup, but it's just not as light or flawless looking. Until I saw this post I FORGOT about this awake foundation. I love the whole awake line, which is from japan. Their vit. c in a little vial feels like one of the few that isn't deactivated. I love this water based make up as it goes on wet then dries mattebut not cakey, still looks like skin with some life to it. My only problem with it, is the package goes very fast if you use it everyday. I ended up spending a lotbuying so much of the stuff. Like the Clea de Peau which is very high, I would use it sparingly if you don't want to keep buying it every month. I think it's excellent ingredients and it never caused clogged pores or breakouts on my sensitive skin.

I just wanted to come back to say that I still love this product but I'm toward the end of it now and be warned that about 3/4 of the way through, it starts to break and fall apart. You might think that you could still use it (and I suppse you can with some extra work) but once that "sponginess" is broken down, it's harder to work with and the beauty of the application is lost. I ended up throwing it away with at least 1/8th of it left. Sad, but...I'll just get some more.

I have to bow down to the girls at Meg"s Makeup yet again for bringing this new product to light. I LOVE it. I have said before that I am always on the hunt for the next great foundation and this one is fantastic. Just 2 weeks ago I thought ModelCo was the end all be all but now I'm torn between two lovers. But I'm not feeling like a fool, I feel rich with great foundation options that make my skin look flawless. I'm all about coverage. I noticed right away that this was the same packaging as the Vincent Longo water-based foundation which I also loved oh some 20 foundations ago but with VL you had to build up the coverage. This seems to be the same nice water base that goes on cool to the skin and, like I said, flawless, but you get the coverage right off the bat -- no build up required. Two very enthusuastic thumbs up from this foundation freak.

I wasn't too impressed when i got this, but it's not so bad after using it. The coverage was light and shimmery and it was the perfect kind of coverage i could want from a foundation.I am really picky about foundation as it makes my skin dry looking but this one gets an A from me!
