PUREOLOGY Hydrate Shampoo & Conditioner
Wendi, the fabulous rep for Pureology sent us some Antifade Complex Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner. Right smack on the shampoo bottle is an "Allure's Editor Choice Award". We're going to ignore that. I mean it's great and all but we tend to be pretty tough critics.
The price on shampoo is pretty shocking to me. Growing up, Paul Mitchell was the big splurge at $10.99. When did the jump go to $25.99 and up? I know, I can get a drugstore brand for much less. I'm just saying, when I want the fancy stuff it sure does cost me.
Off the subject, but also, has anyone else noticed shoes have skyrocketed too? I remember when Manolo's and Jimmy Choo's would set you back (still a steep) $450.00. Now I can't get a dream pair for under $900.00?? My friend Melissa blames Sex and The City for the shoe hike.
Who do we blame for the hair care hike? Are shoe and shampoo companies in cahoots?
Pureology claims "There is not a single drop of nasty carcinogenic colour stripping sulfates in this shampoo. Quick rinse formula moisturizes, nourishes and locks in colour-Longer Lasting Hair Colour GUARANTEED"! For the Hydrate Conditioner "An infusion of mulit-weight protein penetrate deeply, while certified organic botanicals invigorate and tickle your senses. UV inhibitors keep the sun in its place, while potent antioxidants including Heliogenol stand guard against colour fade".

First off, I have had 2 hairdressers swear by this line. And who knows hair better? So I'm automatically impressed. Although I can't speak to any of the non-fading claims (because I'm blonde and really never notice any fading anyway) I really liked the shampoo. It was really creamy, had an amazing lather and a yummy soft hint of mint mingled with flowers scent. Plus, I love that it's vegan (I type after eating my beef dinner). I wasn't super crazy about the conditioner though. It smells fantastic but I found it way too minty. Like-tingle your head till it kind of hurts-minty. Also, if I'm spedning more than 20 bucks for a conditioner, I usually go for a heavier, leave on for 10 mins variety for my over processed hair. This is more of a every day conditioner. But my hair did look amazingly healthy when I used the 2 products. I will definetly buy the shampoo again and maybe try to find a less minty conditioner.
This product is AMAZING. I worked at a salon and went from frizzy frightmare to sleek and gorgeous in about 3 weeks when i started using this product. I have no complaints. Smells GREAT. And - it's SUPER concentrated. There is NO water in either of these products (So, when using the shampoo, make sure your hair is thoroughly wet FIRST! It won't lather properly otherwise!).100% pleased with this product. I have the half-gallon salon JUGS (with pumps!) sitting next to my bathtub. :-P
Okay, I admit it works great (my old stylist would use it one me). But I can't deal with the smell- somehow it reminds me of wet dog once it gets on my hair. I know that sounds weird- but it's true. I bought it and couldn't handle it and gave it to a friend- who loves it.
I first must disclose that I am a Hair Stylist. That said I LOVE this product! Infact I love the whole line! I color my hair red, and this product keeps the color longer than any I've tried. The product is concentrated, so you use much less than you would expect. They do not add water, the only liquid in it comes from the certified organic botanicals. So you use much less product. The trick is to make sure that yourhair is dripping wet befor you apply the shampoo. Start by pouring (at most) a quarter sized pool of product in you hand. (I kid you not! it will work wonderfully)You want to use the water in your hair to help with the lather. If you do this you willextend the life of your purchase and thus save money!!! The same goes for the conditioner, apply to very wet hair, use only a quarter sized dollop, smush the conditioner around. You should not use much more than this or you risk weighing your hair down. I have attended classes with the Reps for this product and this is the advice they give. If your stylist did not tell you this ,then shame on them! We sell this line in our salon for $23 per bottle.(tax included) Marina Beach Hair Salon, Marina DelRey Ca. 310-821-9161
The Pureology Shampoo works well in maintaining color control and general control of my hair and the frizzies. It lathers very well. However, I don't particularly like the smellof it. The conditioner is great and it smells terrific. It moisturizes myhair quite nicely. The combination does seem to work well together and my hair smells great after using the two products together. They leavemy hair managable and with lots of shine.
Love this product. I have tried many good quality shampoos and conditioners and always come back to Pureology. I have really thick, curly hair that tends to get frizzy very easy. This line keeps my hair soft and frizzy free. It doesn't get bogged down with film from the product. If I don't use the conditioner for more that 2 washes my hair gets very dry. Highly recommend this product. My hair dressed is using the new line Pureology has out and loves it....very expensive....like $45 a bottle! I would love to try it but out of my league.
Someone totally fried my hair trying to make me a blonde, which is a fine texture and was dark brown. So I started using this shampoo along with the conditioner and it has definitely helped my hair slowly get back to a "normal", softer texture. Before using it, my fried hair was barely about to make it. My current hairdresser(got rid of the one who fried it, obviously) has also noticed a difference. With a once a week deep condioner and this shampoo, my hair (like my city of New Orleans) is slowly and steadily rebuilding from a disaster.
In my repetoire of consumer products on which I consider myself an expert, shampoo and conditioner for colored hair is fast becoming the latest addition. First, I thought it had to be Keratase purple line. Then, Meg introduced me to Okara and I thought, "that is it -- I will never shampoo with another brand for the rest of my born days!" (I am not a beliver in the old wives tale about switching shampoos.) Now, much to my surprise, after using Pureology all month, I'm here to report that it is just as good as my blessed Okara and, even though it's 25 bucks, might still be a few dollars less. Not to mention, I saw it in Rite Aid which means, the next time I find myself in some God-forsaken part of the country realizing at 11pm that I have forgotten (again) to pack my shampoo, rescue is close at hand.
I've been using the Super Straight line, and it really does make my hair straighter. My hair has a bit of a natural kink to it, but the shampoo, conditioner and serum seem to de-kink my hair. I find that flat ironing takes less time also. I can't really comment much on the color retention, as I just started using it a month ago, and just colored my hair again last week. However, I found that it really does deliver on the straight factor, and I love that it's vegan, as I'm also vegan. I'll definately keep buying it on ebay.
I was first introduced to this product by a red-headed dancer working in a beauty-product store. She pointed out the Pureology Red-head guarantee so, being a red-head, I tried it. And it's amazing. I never let myself run out of this product. Especially the conditioner. Geez o PEET! In addition to making my chemically-treated hair love me again after being pampered so well, my HEAD loves me for the tingling minty sensation in the morning. The tingling continues for a good 10 minutes after I'm out of the shower! Pricey? eh... I spend over $100 a trip to my colourist - since using this product, my trips are less frequent. So the money evens out.... Besides, they have regular sales to discount the product which is swell.
I have never used this shampoo and conditioner before so I was excited to try it. The shampoo had pretty good lather, however the conditioner is what I loved the most. Every time I used it, I felt like I was getting a scalp massage. In addition, as far as saving my hair color, Pureology helps keep my blonde hair intact due to too much sun and chlorine exposure. I love it!
I've been using this product for several years, and I can't do without it. My hair has a lot of highlights, and without this conditioner it just turns to straw. As well, my scalp tends to be dry, 3 minutes of conditioner to my scalp (when I do the rest of my hair) and all of my problems are solved! I have never seen it in the drugstore like Trix6 above, but I buy it at a local beauty supply during their yearly "liter sale" for 50% off, and the liter bottles last me about 12 months.
I felt some peer pressure to fall in love with this product because so many of my friends like and recommend it. I have a sensitive scalp and the tingle factor of this shampoo and conditioner slightly stings. The conditioner did really well at untangling my hair and did feel squeaky clean and style easily after. I like to use this once week when I need to wake up my hair. I just think it's too strong for everyday use for me.
This is some really wonderful hair product! Both my sister and her husband are hair stylists (thank you Jesus!) some I am one very fortunate lady!! A couple created the line: this guys wife had cancer, and she lost her hair going through cemo treatments, and their was nothing gentle enough that she could use, so he created purology for her!! Isn't that the sweetest story?! Now we can go brag to our significant others about this story, and hopefully it'll light a fire under their butts!!!
I love finding new WONDERFUL hair products! This conditioner is so good it stripped the hair extensions right out of my head! It is so tingly and invigorating! The conditioner is the only one that I've tried that equals Terax (my fav) but PUREOLOGY is way yummier smelling. It was so moisturizing on my WAY over processed hair. I would say "GO AND BUY THIS NOW!!"
Okay, so I have not used this product myself, but my mom and her friends swear by this shampoo and conditioner for its ability to make their hair look, well in their words... fat. They feel it makes hair seem thicker. Which apparently at 60 is an important thing.
I just ordered some of this product from drugstore.com. i can't wait to try it. Will report back with result ;-)
Back to report, I've received my Purelogy from Drugstore.com and I have to say I love it. My hair feels so soft and it smell great. It keep my blond highlights nice and shinny. I will definately keep buying this product.
my hair is a very curly and very frizzy if the humidity goes up, which it usually does during the summer months. I am always looking for a gentle shampoo and a good conditioner, If it does what it says it does....I'm there!!
although very expensive...this product has made me love my hair!!! the bottles can be smaller than other brands but they really do stretch very far!!! and oh my, the way they smell and make me feel while using them in the shower...incredible! they left my scalp clean an tingling, which was very alluring. :)

all those natural ingredients seem appealing but that price tag? not a fan

I used this shampoo and conditioner when I had my pale blonde hair dyed dark brown. This stuff did wonders for my hair, it kept the color from fading and my hair was super soft. However, since L'oreal bought out Pureology, they've changed the product. It is now watered down, as water is now listed as the first ingrediant, and they aren't using as many organic ingrediants. Futhermore, L'oreal is a huge company that tests their products on animals. Sadly, I won't use this line any more, it just costs too much for a watered down product.
Pureology products are well worth the money and do what they say!
After reading all of your great reviews I'm definitely gonna check it out! Just found a travel size set including shampoo, conditioner, leave-in-conditioner and hairspray for under 15$! *yay*You should definitely check out Ebay for salon brands like these. Sometimes you can really save some green.

Pureology has been used in salons, and I'm wondering what the 'new' ingredients will do to our hair? Why change a good thing? When you consider the small amount needed - the size of a quarter - the price is manageable. But now that Loreal has bought the product, and has added water, we will be the ones paying for the packaging to hold all that water. And we will be paying more for less product with lots of water added - not fair so far... I will definitely keep an eye on the ingredient mix as well. I expect it to be pure, as it was meant to be.
I have the conditioner ( it lasts forever) if you buy the large one, worth the money). I only use it about once a month as its a heavy conditioner. Smell is good at first the gets to be a bit to overpowering.Artcandy

I really like this shampoo and conditioner. My mom bought some after she got her hair colored. I used some and love it. Although, I tend to go back to my old stand by, Redken.

My little set of shampoo, conditioner, leave-in-conditioner and hairspray arrived today and as soon as I tried it out (I HAD to of course, because I was so eager!), the shampoo lathers pretty good (you don't need much) and the conditioner...well, this one is a real dream come true for my hair. It smells like a peppermint bomb exploded and leaves your hair soft, veery easy to comb through (I had NO knots, I was more than astonished about that, picture this with almost waistlenght hair!!) and the leave-in was kicking in some extra moisture. I decided to blow-dry my hair (what I don't usually do) just to see the results. It's the best shampoo/conditioner I have ever used!! I have a trial size of Fekkai at home now which I will try today but I'd say Pureology has my heart!! I love the fact their products are not animal-tested! That's a big plus.

I just got the new essential repair and the smell is Heaven ( Heaven meets Hawaii!)! I love pureology. I have used Enjoy, pearology and others, but, pureology is a great product. After Loreal bought it out I was afraid the quality would fade, but, it hasn't.My only complaint with pureology is the conditioner doesn't feel as satin and silk as other ones but the smell, ingredients, and botanical make up for the little bit of softness/creaminess it lacks. It is a great product. The split end repair is the very best.
I use 2 Pureology products. The shampoo, Nano Works, which has done wonders for my hair!! I don't have to shampoo as often and it moisturizes so well for a shampoo. It's really saved my hair the heat damage that otherwise would be caused. The other is a styling product. Power Dressing. I use it when I blow dry my hair straight rather than flat iron it. There's no need to flat iron my hair when I use this stuff. Not only does it keep ALL frizz away (ALL DAY, ALL NIGHT, ..AS LONG AS ITS ON) it makes my hair super shiny and majorly soft!! It's a amazing.. Going on it feels like it would leave your hair sticky.. but girls, it doesn't. Anyone that blow dries their hair really needs this product!! When I use it, my hair looks like I just got a blow out from the salon (but I did it myself!). I really should have put this in my fave. products list b/c obviously I love this stuff. Anywho..These are totally worth the money!
I am totally in love with the Hydrate-line, but as I only tried the hydrating products so far, I'm also curious about the SuperStraight line, too. I will be definitely ordering in the next few days, so I can get back to you for a little review about each product:-).To tiffynay, do you mean the Relaxing Serum and/or the SuperSmooth Hot Iron Protection? Haven't heard of "Power Dressing" yet, so I am just curious, lol.

Yeah it's called Power Dressing. It's in the yellow bottle... Antifade Complex. It says 'body hold hair styler' on the bottle. It's like a ... lotion kind of like a gel. LoL. It's a mix between those LoL.
I think I'm going back to this brand exclusively. I counted over 39 bottles of shampoo and conditioner in my house, and I am the only one who lives here! I need to find my HG shampoo and conditioner and stick to it. I used it again this past weekend, bc my mother uses it and we were all at the beach. The thing is, her hair always looks so dry and unmanageable, which is what mine would be if I didn't spend so much time and effort on it. Not to mention money. But I feel like I have to use up some of the stuff I have before i buy more. If for no other reason than the fact that I have no space to keep it in.
This sounds so much better then the Ookisa . I love mint and the fact that it seems to last so long. I've read through the comments and it comes in a sample size. I think I'll have to pick some samples up. Does anyone know if I can order it off the net?
High price but i love pureology products!
I love pureology products despite the high price
Haven't tried the hydrate system but I have used the PureVolume one and it works really well. The fact that it doesn't contain any sulfates or any of those bad chemicals is great!!

OH MY GOSH. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Pureology. I actually use the Nano Works, which is even better than the one above. I highly recommend it to everyone. I have bleached blonde hair and I get my roots done every four weeks. My hair still feels and looks amazing because of this shampoo. I love the smell and how conditioned my hair is afterwards. It may be over $100 (for the Nano Works) but it is worth it! I only wash my hair every other day so the 8oz bottle lasts quite awhile. GO BUY IT NOW! P.S. It is Vegan too, even better! :)
Ok I haven't used the shampoo/conditioner sets from this lne yet because its not carried in any salons I could find here where I live. I did find one that had some of their products on clearance and the on that stuck out was the root lifter. I've used in 2 blowouts since I bought it and OMG! it does work. Only caution:use sparingly. Its easy to use to much on this, but make sure your spray is at least arm length away and short spurts, not layered on like hairspray. If you apply it to each section as you're blowing it out works better than spraying it in. It can tangle easily, like it did for me when I put it in the first time after I had towel dried and turned my head over. Took me more than a minute to comb it out and get back to blowing out. Good stuff though, I recommend

I LOVE Pureology, but do not buy it on a regular basis. I can't remember which ones I liked, I think it was the shampoo in the pink bottle and the conditioner in the purple bottle, but that could be reversed, or wrong. :) I want to limit shampoo use, so I don't know if I'd re-buy the shampoo, but I would love to get the conditioner again. I've used some of their styling products, too. They were nice. I do wish they weren't so expensive, though.
Pureology is a fantastic line.
This looks great.
This does look great, but I am a cheap kid and I could never bear to even think about paying that much for a shampoo. My boyfriend would look at me like I was crazy!

Nice review!
this looks really nice!

Not much of a shampoo person. So where is the ingred. list so I could read it??:(
i used to use lush products but I feel like the shampoo isn't doing much for me, since its about the same price as a lush shampoo i think i'm going to have to try this next!
This shampoo and conditioner do help with keeping color fresh
I switched to the no-poo method, I find that shampoo aggravates my dermatitis and gives me a fro. I've noticed since making the switch that my hair is becoming much less frizzy and oily as well.
